Some criticized him too much, but as for me, I'll never forget the guy. So long, Lamar...

Well... at least he and his mom won't have to deal with those mean ol' Twitter fans anymore!

ETA: I do wish him luck.

Guess that means I can post this now. Hate to dog one of our players, but crap like this is why people complained about him. Just before this he'd turned it over near midcourt, then A&M turned it over to us, and Carter hit the three on a fastbreak. But Peters is sitting back there sulking. He wasn't hurt. Didn't fall down. Just standing there watching the play. This wasn't the only time I saw him do this in that same game - last game he ever played in the Hump. I just happened to be taking a picture before halftime. I mean... compare to our women's PG - could you imagine seeing Jazz Holmes standing back watching a play like this?

Well atleast we were on offense** I think it'd be nice if we could get a year or two break from the Kegler/Newman/Peters type personalities.

I had hoped that he would stay. We had a lot better depth at guard position with him staying and now we are thin.

Whats the line up for next season?

Nick - PG
Carter - SG
Woodard - SF
Perry - PF
Ado - C

We should be a very physical team next year and our starting 5 should be able to play lock-down D. I would have really liked to have Peters as the PG and then have Carter/Nick as the 2 guard.

I wish Lamar well! Glad he chose to come to State. This could be a positive development for all parties.

He will be missed despite the naysayers

He was our lightening on the court. His quickness was a huge positive for our program while he was here and it will be missed. We will also miss his 3 point shooting which won some key games for us this year. Good luck Lamar!

Gonna miss his abilities on the court. Yes he was emotional, but he was also the yang to Q's ying when it came to emotional play. Steady is great, but so are the highs of someone who is expressive.

As a senior, he would be far better than anyone we have at PG. His ability to beat his many off the dribble and collapse the defense was HUGE for the team. Nobody currently on the roster has the same ability. Not Nick, not Carter, etc.

Hope he has a long career wherever and can sack away the $.

Agreed. It’s not like I think we’re gonna suddenly fall back to being a .500 team, but we will miss Lamar and Q next year. Badly

I didn't dislike Lamar at all. Best of luck to him, but this Crash Davis quote applies to him and his skill set...

Crash Davis: Come on meat, show me that million dollar arm of yours cause I got a good idea about that five cent head.

I wish him the best.

When he was on. He was fun to watch. One of the quickest ball handlers we have ever had. Dude could break some ankles with that first step move towards the lane.

Well, that’s only going to be true if someone else is able to step up to fill the void. The 12 ppg, I’m not worried about. It’s the 5 assists that concerns me

Neither Nick or Tyson are ideal distributors of the ball

Yeah, his ability to penetrate was great, except that he followed that penetration with a turnover on a bad pass most times. Other times he'd pull up a half court low percentage 3 with a full shot clock. But then there was that 10% of the time where he'd complete the assist or make the shot, and for some reason that's what most of our fans remember (because it was preceded by some flashy dribbling). I think we'll be ok.

Your definition and my definition of 'most times' is very different.
The bad may feel more impactful than the good and may be remembered more often, which could explain why you think he turned it over or made a bad pass most times, but reality sure played out differently. He averaged 3 turnovers a game- he hardly turned it over or made a bad mass 'most times' he got into the lane.

It was clear as day that Lamar has very limited basketball I.Q. He's an NBA level dribbler and has NBA level quickness but he doesn't understand basketball as a PG and that couldn't be more obvious by his lack of ability to do anything with the ball once he always beat his man. Imagine being able to shake anyone in the world and then not understand what to do once you did shake em. That's Lamar. He hasn't developed one single "shot" after beating his man. None. No floater, no euro-step, no nothing. That's a lack of basketball intelligence and being lazy mentally. Period.

sometimes, i wish he was at the other end of the court when we were on offense. to be fair, he could be really good when he was on, but that became a rarity.

He could shoot you in a game, and he could shoot you out of a game. Playing under control was not his strong suit. Pluses and minuses about equal out. That said I do wish him the best. Hopefully his best basketball is in front of his.
