I am a big Rutgers fan and always want us to win. I don't like the way some RU fans attack Penn State. For many years, they have had a great and loyal fan base. Yes, Sandusky was a disgrace. While not on the level of Sandusky, we have had more than one coach who has not made us proud. Let's cheer for our kids and spend our time building our culture the right way and not tear down others.
Let's hope Suriano comes to RU and becomes a national champ.
Go RU !

It's not what Sandusky did that has fostered the hate and vitriol.. It's the culture that allowed it to continue unchecked for years afterwards... Unfortunately, that stigma won't be going away anytime soon... But with that being said, I have a very healthy respect for what Cael is accomplishing at Penn St... Yeah I know they're getting too talent... But they're also getting the most out of that talent... That's a scary combo....

Hofstra makes zero sense.
I am sure that we will know where NS will go soon because the Fall term for the various schools being discussed begin soon. Until then, we are all just speculating. So, allow me to speculate ...Hofstra makes a lot of sense for reasons that have nothing to do with wrestling. First, it is relatively close to home. Second, and most importantly, the location is near the training centers of Matt Serra and Ray Longo. For those of you who aren't familiar with those names, Matt Serra is the former UFC welterweight champion who is as a very high level Jujitsu practitioner and instructor. Ray Longo is a high level mma boxing instructor. They have a stable of UFC fighters including former middle weight champ, Chris Weidman. If NS is serious about mma in the near future the proximity of Hostra to these instructors makes sense.

Rider is located near the jujitsu training center of Ricardo Almeida who is France Edgar's instructor. Frankie does other training with Nick Catone and Elite wrestling about 35 minutes east of Rider. Not sure how much mma training will occupy NS over the next few years or whether the locations of the campuses to these training centers will play into his decision.

I posted something very similar on themat.com thread.

If it ends up being Hofstra, it is because of the outside training opportunities.

Also, if a desire to be the superstar is something that the family is seeking out, you know he's the #1 as soon as he steps foot into the room.

All of that having been said, I have spoken some Hofstra insiders (people who would be/should be in the know) and from those conversations, I am not anticipating it being the Pride.

With the ongoing conjecture, this should be finalized within the next week regardless, due to class starting, correct?

The mean spirited part of me would get a kick out of seeing him go to Lehigh to wrestle.

It's an odd fit, but good for Suriano in a way. He could redshirt this season and plug into the lineup for 3 years there. Problem is Karam and Parker at Lehigh, so not so good for them. But I'd have to think Santoro would be happy to get Nick. If Nick could stay at 125, that would ease the process, but that seems unlikely given the rumblings about his wanting to move to 133.

The reason for my vindictiveness is because our 125 pounder just transfered there because he thought Suriano was coming here.

I don't know that you want to say that in a public forum. Paetzel transferred in May, right?

Honestly, if you're just going to come here to *****, go back to your forum to do so.

The wrestling community isn't that big. Kids can hear rumors all the time, and considering how much he's wrestled close to home after the season tells me the gossip could start spreading in our wrestling room at any time. Just like the Downey rumors. Your speculation on this process means nothing to me.

Wow. Touchy much?

After hundreds of posts, I'm still confused. Can NS come to Rutgers, sit out a year, wrestle two years at Rutgers, then wrestle a grad year at another non B1G school? A simple yes or no would be helpful. Thanks. $$$$

Lol. He can say it anywhere he wants, because its not true either way. Its another message board "truth" that exists only because it has been repeated so many times. We have another 125 pounder in Paetzall's class - Mackall - who redshirted last year. Paetzall couldn't beat him out, so he transferred. He was going to RS this year, and likely never start again.

That's what I was thinking as a more likely reason for Paetzall's leaving and one which makes a lot more sense, frankly.

If Mackall was beating Paetzall last year , why didn't Mackall start at 125 and Paetzall RS ?

Shoulder surgery. Here is another nugget for you RU wrestling fans and PSU visitors. Spent a lovely afternoon at RU practice today and it was a full room. It was fun watching MVB and JVB going at it. I would hate to be at the Van Brill dinner table trying to get something to eat the way they went at each other. Guess who else was at practice? Too late. It was Anthony Giraldo back on track at RU wrestling. Looking to go at either 141 or 149. Had a nice talk with him. Weight is good around 150. Guess who he was wrestling with the whole day? Too late! Nicky Suriano. Had a very nice talk with him and told him I can't wait till all this is over but whenever it is we would always consider him a Scarlet Knight and would root for him wherever he lands. Nicky is a beast on the mat and all he wants to do is wrestle. He is amazing to watch. I also told him if Nicky Gravina gives him any trouble come to me and I would take care of him!Signing off. Billy G.

Seems like Suriano loves being in the Rutgers room. Maybe giving up another year is worth being happy. Very tough choice.

Wonderful. If all he wants to do is wrestle, why have we gone through all this drama? He could have just stayed at Penn State. Nobody was stopping him from wrestling there, as far as I know.
Maybe he doesn't like cow pastures and being in the middle of nowhere?
