They both ran a 3-4 troll. And wiscy nt was only 288lbs troll.
Cool. While we're at it, let's take all teams who run a 3-4, find those that did well, and use those only.

Never mind the fact the subject of the op is on the hiring of Diaco, not defensive scheme. But don't let me stand in the way of the way of your sensationalism. And ridiculous and reaching comparisons.

This is exactly what we needed. This coach will inject all kinds of "run thru walls for him attitude." young, energetic, history of great accomplishment, what more could we want?

Your version of trolling is anyone with an opinion that differs from yours. The same goes for many on this site - most, many the very same posters I'm alluding to, were those who defended Banker's hire, despite his well-documented statistical history.
Yes, absolutely!

I honestly don't have a problem with a differing viewpoint most of the time... at least not to the extent that I call it trolling. But when every stinking post is anti Riley and staff, then yes, I do believe hat is the definition of trolling.

I think you have had one or two posts where you say something like, "I hope Riley has success," but the rest of your posts are just poking the coaches or other posters. That's your M.O.

Snicker, what do you view your job to be on this board? Is it to make sure any exciting developments should be tempered, causing you to post against that? That's what I see you doing. Maybe that's not the textbook definition of trolling, but it is pretty close in my dictionary.

The fact you are citing your "own dictionary" is step one to admitting you have a problem.

And no, my "role" is not to be a buzzkill. I am not a pompous prick who believes I have a role on a college football message board. Jesus.

I just find it interesting no one is discussing the logic of this hire, using past history as their primary basis of support. Not the "coulds." And I hope other Nebraska fans are getting pretty fed up with the hiring of coaches with the "intangibles." We heard that quite recently.

And Nebraska is experiencing a significant amount of turnover for one to simply say, "all is well."

Again, positive post about these coaches. Haven't seen that from you. You haven't even given them a chance. All you do is complain. If I'm wrong, set me straight.

This guy produced one top 10 defense at Notre Dame. With a lot more talent to work with.

The rest in the 30s and 50s.

What am I missing?

Like I mentioned in another thread, the opponents put points on the board in the 20's and 30's during his tenure at ND. I wasn't too impressed, but after comparing the opponents points per game and the overall ppg rankings, maybe it isn't so bad.

Cincinnati Points Per Game Allowed 2009 (Opponents final score in parenthesis)
23.07 (15, 3, 18, 20, 13, 17, 10, 7, 45, 21, 36, 44, 51)

ND PPG Allowed 2010 - 2013
20.23, 20.69, 12.77, 22.38

UConn PPG Allowed 2014-2016
29.83, 19.46, 28.08

That may sound like a lot of points, but this year the 20th ranked defense allowed 20.7 points per game while the #10 defense allowed 18.0.
A Top 5 defense holds teams under around 16ppg most years.

Year - #1 - Team and #10 PPG Ave Ranked Scoring Defense Allowed PPG
2016 - 13.7 (Bama) 18.8
2015 - 13.7 (Wisconsin) 18.3
2014 - 17.3 (Ole Miss) 20.2
2013 - 11.1 (FSU) 19.3
2012 - 11.6 (Alabama) 17.2
2011 - 7.7 (Bama) 19.3
2010 - 12.4 (TCU) 18.5
2009 - 10.4 (Nebraska) 16.2
2008 - 9.0 (USC) 15.1
2007 - 13.3 (tOSU) 18.8

Hopefully he does well and helps win some games!
Hopefully he helps land some big time players! GBR!

Yeah my impression is a definite step up re: coaching and schemes say 4 stars, however, i think he may be an excellent recruiter.

So, again (and for the last time), the crux of your argument rests on the claim that I don't positive comments about the staff? And this equals trolling, according to your own dictionary?

I'll admit I obviously come off as negative to die-hard Riley supporters. I also believe many die-hard Riley supporters come off an delusional in the eyes of others.

Come on man, you come off negative to everyone that isn't hard core anti Riley.

A realist looks at all sides. You are flat out negative. Not sure if that is just your nature, but seriously, you are negative.

But keep up the good fight.

I have no idea how anybody could be upset with this hire. His defense at Cinny were good, his D at Nd were great and his defense at UCONN improved dramatically every year. What am I missing???

That's just it. You don't just come off negative... you can't acknowledge anything that is good. That's the problem.

I admit that I'm way more positive than not, but I have also admitted that these coaches may not be the answer. However, I have given them a chance to prove otherwise. You don't even do that. All negative.

You don't win the Broyles award without being the whole package as an assistant so he must be able to recruit. However, he couldn't recruit at UCONN. He had the worst recruiting class going this year in the AAC and this was one reason why he was fired. I'm guessing we are more like Notre Dame than UCONN so hopefully he feels we have something to which kids will want to come.

Riley is the coach. I want him and his staff to succeed. I realize their is a more than non-zero probability that things end badly. I choose to see the glass half full. Kind of a fan thing.

Ultimately you're correct about my negativity. Cynicism is one of my characteristics I wish I could successfully shake.

my wife would like to make sex on him

I was telling my wife about the new hire and mentioned that someone said 'there isn't a mother out there that would not allow him in her house to recruit her son' and showed her his picture...

Needless to say, her giggly reaction must have been the same as your wife's.

I personally dont care about all of the stat comparisons, there are different variables. I am excited about the guy. Everything points to a hard nosed, high expectation, hard working D. I dont care if it is a 4-3, 3-4, tampa two, 5-2, or a 1-11 - I just want to see good tough in your face, run through the opponent D and attitude.

When things dont go well right away there is going to be lots of complaining, screaming for the old 5-2, fire the guy, he wasnt a splash hire, open the checkbook, yadda yadda yadda. There probably arent a handful of posters that fully understand this D or any D - but they understand results and wins. Now go win.

How has Notre Dame done since he left? The guy that replaced him got fired this year after a 4-8 season.

Will Diaco be a miracle worker? Probably not. But can you name another realistic candidate with a better resume? Dave Aranda and Brent Venables weren't coming.

I'm going to preface this by saying that I have no idea how Diaco is going to turn out, but I'm so tired of our fans excusing mediocrity by saying it's the best we can do. Also, who cares who else may have been interested in a person at one point? It didn't happen, and it didn't happen for a reason.

This is Nebraska, our biggest worry used to be if we would be ranked #1 or #10 preseason. We need to raise expectations around here or we will be forever irrelevant.

Most on here aren't saying this is the best we can do... Most are saying we hope this is the guy.
Diaco was probably THE candidate to get this season for a D coordinator role. This wasn't a "best we can do" hire.
Yep, from what I have read, he was number 2 candidate... Number 1 is staying put. At least from Riley's perspective, this isn't a "best we can do" hire.

Climbing the mountain isn't done in one step... which is why I've always given the coaches more time to get there. But I know others think it is going too slow. Don't know who's right, just following what I believe is the best course.

So help the rest of us then - who was the "best we can do" list? I want serious names, not pie in the shy and even then they are debatable.
