Sunday Lunch in Starkville

We live in the Atlanta area and travel to MSU for most of the home football games. We usually leave Starkville no later than Sunday morning, but decided to stay for lunch this Sunday.

We tried Bulldog Burger first. We got there at 11:30 after a long search for a parking place. We then learned that they had a 1.5 hour wait. We called the Veranda; the wait there was about an hour. We ended up at Lost Pizza which didn't have a wait when we got there but had a very long line by the time we left. The restaurant next to Lost Pizza (Umi?) also had a line out the door, and the parking lot was packed.

Is the Starkville restaurant scene like this every Sunday around lunch time? Or is this a Sunday-after-gameday-only thing? Or perhaps a Sunday-after-SEC-gameday-only thing?

Any recommendations for a Sunday lunch spot that takes reservations? Extra points if they offer steaks soaked in Dales and/or mole cricket eradication services.

I'll hang up and listen.

It is more of a game weekend thing, especially when it's a night game and a lot more people stay in Starkville overnight.

Most of the places that serve brunch open at 10, so I would suggest trying to go eat closer to 10 or 10:30 next time. We ate at Restaurant Tyler yesterday with only about a 15 minute wait.

Really just a game weekend thing. Places get crowded on Sunday, but usually nothing like that.

^^^what coach said. It's where we stay when we come up. Also, if you come up for thanksgiving, their thanksgiving dinner is really damn good.

I believe Central Station Grill takes reservations. Harvey's and Veranda might take reservations also. Sundays are always busy but is on game weekends restaurants are packed. Like someone else said get there by 10 or !030 if don't make reservation.

It's a Sunday-after-sec-football thing.
Tip 1, wherever you want to go, be there at 11 at the latest.
Tip 2, Mexican places seat the most and turn people out the fastest.
Don't expect to show up to one of the most popular places in town at 1130 and get inside.

Bulldog Burger will text you when your table is ready. You can go walk around the district, have a few drinks at one of the other bars, or even get some cheese sticks at Stagger if there's a long wait. That's what we did.

When I was in school, a lot of the townspeople came out to the cafeteria for lunch. Never could figure out why. Beautiful building for sure, but never could say much good about the food.

That's the day a lot of students would go into town for lunch.

If you like fried chicken, Moe's Original Bbq has it on Sunday and it's very good. At least it is at other locations I've been to. I've never been to the one in Starkville.

Some stats.

Starkville has a population of 25,500
Msu has a student body of 20,000

Which means the area has infrastructure for about 50k for that. Businesses have to survive for 365 days a year. Not for the basketball/baseball games and the 6-7 football games. The football games take it upwards of 85k to 100k.

Now imagine you own a business here.

Starkville continues to make strides

I hope the developments on the 12/82 bypass continue and are done right. The cotton district is a great college neighborhood. I graduated a few years back and barely recognize the place. Our university trajectory continues to move forward.

We're talking China Garden here. Why wouldn't this be a great time to make a first post?

Not to mention the Starkville City Government is inept at best.
