Summertime is a great time to catch up on some reading. I only read sports-related books. Anyone have any good, recent recommendations.
I have read the typical Feinstein books from the 80-90s, Miracle at St. Anthony, most of the other top sports books, etc. Looking for more recently published books I should look for.

If you havent read Across the River about the New Orleans Edna Karr football program, that is a fascinating book. Totally dysfunctional place for kids to grow up and a football program and coaching staff that obviously cares about the kids but does things regularly that will make your jaw drop.

The Fighting Donovans by Art Donovan is really good. Almost like 3 mini biographies about Art, his father, and grandfather. His father and grandfather are both in the boxing hall of fame and Art is in the football hall of fame.

If you want something light and fun, Hate Mail from Cheerleaders by Rick Reilly is a quick read of short stories that I don't think ever made it into Sports Illustrated.

Mudbaths & Bloodbaths: The inside story of the Bears-Packers Rivalry by Gary D'Amato and Cliff Christl is a must if your a Bears or Packers fan.

If you're an ND fan Rockne of Notre Dame: The making of a football legend by Ray Robinson is a good biography.

Also for the ND faithful, Talking Irish: The Oral History of Notre Dame Football by Steve Delsohn is a nice historical look at the program.

Thanks, I loved listening to Art Donovan when he was still on TV and his David Letterman appearances, no knowledge of this dad or grandfather.

Not sports related but books I have read over the past 3-6 months I would recommend. Sci-Fi and Dystopian heavy but I enjoyed these.
Project Hail Mary
Airtimes
The Man in the High Tower
A Gentleman from Moscow
Parables of the Sower
The Man Who Saw Seconds

Same here. Loved the old videos of Art on Johnny Carson and the book reads like that. Very funny stories and loved reading about his grandfather who's fights were mostly bare knuckle and went upwards of 60 rounds.

The man in the High Castle is a classic book. If you watch the TV series stop after season 1. That is the only season based on the book, after that it gets real weird and real bad.

I recently read The Boys in the Boat, an account of the University of Washington rowing team that went on to become the U.S. men's 8 crew that won the gold medal in the 1936 Olympics in Berlin.

Didn't think I would like it, but I couldn't put it down. So many great leadership and teamwork lessons!

Highly recommend.
