Great job by the students. Hope they fill the section every game.

Also kudos to the Athletic Department for adding a couple of standing rows closer to the court in front of the old student risers.

I was shocked by the size of the student section. They were into it. Looked like they added a small section in front by the DJ for the riot squad(?). Hope they keep it up all year!

Nice.

They took away at least 5-10 rows of student seats back in like 2012.

The students filled their section tonight. Perhaps the meeting that Coach Pikiell had with the fraternity leaders helped pack the student section.

If my memory is correct, the students have had a good showing game one the past couple of years. It is game 2 and on that they have disappeared. Hopefully, they see what Pike is building and they continue to show up like tonight.

Was it a blackout? If not, somebody needs to tell the students to wear freaking red.

So true...very little Rutgers gear in that section.....usually first game they give away t shirt for students but not sure of that this time

There was no t-shirt giveaway yesterday, which makes the student attendance that much more impressive (unless they were expecting a t-shirt and disappointed they didn't get one)

predictably they did not show for the 2nd game. We will see about Tuesday. Some big games coming up close to exam time...MSU and SHU so hope a push is being made to get them out to those games. Will we ever go back to the days where students had to sit in the 300 level..even in the NIT years of Wenzel that was happening

Atrocious turnout of students. You'd think on a campus with tens of thousand students that by accident a few hundred would show up. They don't even have to be RU fans - just kids who like basketball.

Been the same story for these no-name non-conference opponents for decades though. Silly me to think it would change.

Spot on comments that apply to all Rutgers sports. There are more than enough students on campus to have a few hundred show up for different events depending on your sports interest. The same rationale should apply to the public at large who like college basketball but don't support NJ teams.

I'm a student who loves the team (obviously I'm on this site). There are so many other factors that limit kids from attending games. Football is different, Saturday is a day to drink, go to the game, and have fun and you know when it's coming. The basketball schedule is not consistent and while we all here see the progress under Pikiell the average student still sees that we are the worst team in the Big Ten playing a team that they've never heard of.

I'm not saying kids shouldn't be going to the games, I make an effort to almost always be there exams permitting but be realistic about the state of the program correlated to how many kids are showing up.

Did they show up to second game or not? conflicting reports on this thread though I suspect the ones saying they didn't weren't there.

The only way to get kids to show for these games is sustained success to the level that not everyone can get in to conference games. At that point you can implement a priority point system that forces people who want to attend RU-MSU to also attend RU-East Nebraska Technical College.

Don't listen to MSM (or MSF in this case). Other fans reporting on crowd size 30 minutes before tip off with their own agenda. I checked the logs on the Rutgers L bus, more people rode before gametime than any other time in the Waters, FHJ, Rice or Jordan regimes.

This is what always blew my mind. Rutgers is a huge university, it's crazy there aren't a few hundred kids that like basketball and are looking for something to do and decide to go to the games. The games only take up 2 hours, and don't really interfere with campus nightlife. Seems like a great study break to me!

this might be a dumb question - but other big 10 schools - can the students walk to the gym from where majority of dorms are located?

The students were absent for game two. I think the confusion is that we played St. John’s in a charity game that was not part of our season. So the third home game was really our 2nd game of the season. Again, students did not show for the second game of our season. The cheerleaders/dance team in silver outfits more than made up for the lack of students...

Some yes, some no.

I would think Livingston campus housing alone, especially now with the new Livi apts (2-3 minute walk, few hundred feet tops....many people walk further from their cars in the parking lots), has more than enough student population to support Rutgers basketball and fill the entire student section.

I don't know how many people can fit in the Student section, but for argument's sake let's say the capacity is 1000 seats. In that case I'd say about 100-125 people were sitting in that section. It appeared to be at least 85% empty.
