Great job by the student section last night. It was more packed than I've seen in a long time and why it was louder than it's been in a long time.

They were holding students in a line by the stairs throughout the first half, trying to make space, letting them in as they made more space.

Ushers made the pep bank consolidate their rows so they could fit more students.

They've been great this year. My only pet peeve is the fact that they don't all wear red.

When you look at games at other venues, the students are all wearing the same color shirts, and it's very impressive. Not sure why our students can't figure this out.

That’s because the athletic department gives out free t-shirts instead of free bobble heads and Taylor ham sandwiches which do nothing

100% it's not hard. Riot Squad needs to get the message out to the students. Put on a freaking red shirt.

At the season opener, they were giving out free red t-shirts by the entrance to the student section.
In the 00's they gave out shirts to bball and football every year at least once. Are there really Rutgers students that don't own a red shirt? Lol

I agree 100%. I think the difference, other schools find sponsors and therefore give away lot of shirts.

This also could be said for the rest of the fans in attendance. We must have 12 different team colors.

Exactly! RU Athletics still has a ways to go to reach the big time. They need to prevail on some sponsors to give the students some free T's for the big games- and not the irregular XXL t-shirts they throw into the stands at the break! My oldest son went to MD where every big game they got a free t-shirt. He graduated 5 years ago, but still has quite a collection.

Yeah, I mean, they hand out Pom poms — a thing that is popular in the SEC but hasn’t really caught on with us — so I’d rather they just give out tee shirts.

I remember years ago for a Rutgers/Notre Dame game that was on ESPN, they put red or white tee shirts on everyone’s seats in the entire lower level to give each section alternating colors, to create the striped look on TV. Pretty sure Coca Cola was the sponsor, and I think I still have the shirt I got from sitting in the old section 118.

Good. Absolutely zero reason for the pep band to need to take up so many rows, spacing every other row, instead of sitting like every other band in the nation does, row after row after row.

I will never understand this nonsense. WEAR RED. Pretty simple. Why was the girl’s lax team in freakin’ grey??!!

They stopped when Flood was here for some reason, I think 2013. What they were thinking is beyond me.

Usually student athletes too cool to cheer
I’ve seen Gavin Wimsatt and other football players (and recruits) right in the middle of the riot squad cheering. I thought it was a bad take by the woman’s lacrosse team.
