let me preface this by saying I took a few classes that Ganong taught back in the early 90's........Guy knows his stuff.......

Having said that......something is wrong with the strength program of our bball team......

when a true freshman Deng Adell walks in and is the strongest guy on the team.....somethings wrong....

When Anas looks like a tounge depressor after 2 years in the program....somethings wrong.....

When Jaylen Jiohnson tells a reporter that all he can bench is 185....somethings wrong....that's Sophomore in high school numbers....

Even a kid like Levitch......quite honestly, strength may be the ONLY thing preventing him from being a baller....he is certainly skilled....

I don't know if RP is so hell bent on BF percentage that strength takes a back seat or what.......but when you have to compete with the likes of Sparty, UK, UNC, Duke and VS......the players need to be much stronger.

What do you suggest steroids and peds? As much as these guys run and practice it is hard to build muscle during the season. It is the offseason where they need to build strength and it doesn't happen overnight.

Pitino has an amazing record in the strength and conditioning department, with quite a few players that have undergone complete transformations throughout their career. Trez was the strongest player in the country last year. Gorgui went from looking like Mahmoud to being a solid NBA center. Russ went from a 150lb string bean into an unstoppable shooting guard. Cordination and conditioning is much more important in basketball that raw strength. Even with that, we have guys like Onuaku, Mathiang, Lewis, Adel, and Mitchell who can bang with anyone at their position.

True....
Mindset was on the huggins type of guys. He made sure his teams were physically strong. Pitino is great at conditioning.

Virginia is the team to watch if you like the physical bruisers all over the court, especially last year when they had Justin Anderson and Darion Atkins. Just a team full of grown a** men

Mahmoud came in at 189. It's been reported that he's up to 210-215. Since he doesn't seem like he has any fat on him I am gonna assume that it is all muscle. That's great for a year. 20-25 lbs of muscle.

I think expecting much more that is unrealistic.

Levitch was a walk on until just before this semester. You gotta remember that walk ons do not have the same privledges that scholarship players have. I recall someone telling me that Tim Henderson couldn't work out at the team facility and had to have his own gym membership to work out.
