Store hours - why so short?

Seems like COVID was the nail in the coffin for late store hours. Also increased wages, I suppose.

Feels like everything around me shuts down 8-8:30pm, and it’s much more noticeable as daytime gets longer.

I was going to look at vehicles this evening and see the dealers all close at 8pm. I’m not 100% sure but I think I can remember being with my parents at the dealer until late into the evening. Like 10-11pm. This was the 70s and 80s, can anyone vouch for that or am I off base?

What’s it like in your neck of the woods?

Dealerships close early in winter and stay open later in spring and summer. Willis Auto Campus is open till 8 pm week nights, 6 pm Friday, and 5 pm Saturday. Carmax open till 9 pm week nights and Saturday. I prefer to drive a car lot w/o having a salesperson chase after you if I want to check out a certain car.

This American Life had an insane episode on a car lot in Long Island.

I haven't noticed either but its probably because I grew up in late 80s and early 90s. I still remember my Dad reminding me to fill my gas tank and get chew before the stations closed on x-mas.

Small town Iowa in the 70s and 80s did not have anything open after 5 unless it was a bar or grocery store. The grocery store was opened till 9 on Friday night and Saturday. The liquor store was opened later.
