He's a very average kicker
Maybe not in the BIG where there are 18 teams at last count. Earned 3rd team honors. Had some big kicks late in the season. I would take him any day. Best Hawkeye kicker-nope. Way up towards the top though.

You nailed it. The game is about touchdowns, not field goals. KF needs to stop with the 66-yard FGs and get with the idea of going for it on 4th and 3 or less.
The 66 yard FG attempt was the last play of the first half and without the ball being blocked the FG kick had a higher percentage chance of being good than a hail mary, and kirk wasnt going to try a hail mary

There was no going for it on 4th down in this example unless it was a super 50 yard hail mary pass

I'm weirdly ok with the crazy long FGs, with the caveat that your line doesn't get absolutely manhandled for whatever reason. Drew has a cannon for a leg and I think he trusts himself more when he can let it fly rather than try to aim. But otherwise I agree. The punt team has been poo from what we as fans are used to as well.
And the interior blocking of our kick unit has been a bit lacking the last few years, the couple of blocks at Nebby last year as an example. I think the 5 blockers who are in line with the kick going through the uprights might be better off being coached to fire off the snap into the defenders to keep them from penetrating and jumping

I think one of Drew's best kicks ever was into a tough, swirling wind in Wrigley field to beat jNW and that baby was way up the uprights from 40+
I still can’t believe we were forced to watch games like that.

Was it last year he missed a 56 yarder off the top of the upright? Leg strength has never been an issue.

The board will forever be grateful to Stevens. My work here is done. (j/k)

I just looked at his career stats and his freshman and junior seasons, 2022 and'24, were his most accurate at about 89 and 87%. And we know the snap, hold, and DRew's mechanics all have to be very good to perfect to make a fg, so we dont know all the reasons he has missed a few more fgs this season or in 2023, the wind and footing can also make a difference.

So yeah we were disappointed when he missed but so was he and the kicking team especially on blocks. We are not finely tuned machines.

I/everyone would have really liked it if he made the late fg against Indy. That would have gave us the lead which would have put more immense pressure on Indy. It also would have given PParker a little more ability to play a more straight up defense instead of a lot of heavy blitzing.
