Being inconsistent is, indeed, a problem.
He needs to figure it out because they’ll definitely need him late in one of these games again like the Indiana spot.

Despite all the arguments about the call to kick the 66 yarder this weekend, the fact remains he's got one of the best legs I've ever seen. He's been let down by bad snape, holds, and the line giving way like this past Saturday, and also just errors of his own. But, wow, is his percentage good...

I saw this article today and hope the lad also reaches lofty heights and gets the chance at the next level.
Yes, he has missed a couple makeable kicks but there have been a couple also that were not his fault on snap/holder issues, blocking problems etc. Mytake on this is he, X and other seniors know this is the time to make a statement for this years team as time is running short for a "standout season". I think he will get the job down from here on out if the other special team guys get their assignments taken care of. Hey, just my opinion.
He's part of the problem. These guys are getting paid, ya know, and Stevens has been inconsistent. His miss helped allow Indiana to escape Iowa City with a win. Nobody's blaming him for the 66-yard attempt. That was all on KF, as he has admitted, to his credit.
For months we've been hearing reports about how Stevens has done this and that to improve, how he's been hitting from 65 and 70 yards in practice, yada, yada, yada. The results have not lived up to the hype.
I just don't think you attempt a fg from 40-49 anymore unless you absolutely need to. 4th down conversion percentage this year is 66%. Fgs from 40-49 is 40%. Run a 3rd down play in that range knowing you don't need to get it all because you have another play (or a touch back punt if you want to do that and gain 12 yards max).

You nailed it. The game is about touchdowns, not field goals. KF needs to stop with the 66-yard FGs and get with the idea of going for it on 4th and 3 or less.
I'm weirdly ok with the crazy long FGs, with the caveat that your line doesn't get absolutely manhandled for whatever reason. Drew has a cannon for a leg and I think he trusts himself more when he can let it fly rather than try to aim. But otherwise I agree. The punt team has been poo from what we as fans are used to as well.
I think part of the problem is we have been spoiled going all the way back to Tom Nichol.
Stevens will leave Iowa with several records. His freshman season he wasn't even on scholarship and he saved Kirk's bacon several times.
The guy gives his all, just like Brittney Spears, and I am apoplectic at the lack of respect this board awards him. I'm gonna go get my binky and contemplate how to help him get to the Canadian football league.

I used to be against calling out college players. However, we're in the age of revenue sharing and NIL now. These aren't amateur athletes anymore. I still stray away from calling individual Hawkeyes out, but it no longer bothers me when others do.
We can call out the players cuz they are paid but not the coaches who makes 10 times as much. Makes sense.

Absolutely! And sometimes players are off a bit… they’re human like all of us bound to make mistakes but he will pick up the one and so awesome the rest of the season
Drew is way better than Tom Nichol. (Although Tom will always be remembered by me for his winning kick in the Big House).

Kinda have to agree with you but as many said it’s not been a banner year for him
I also feel bad for him. This situation of missing kicks, haveing one blocked due to low trajectory/bad blocking/poor coaching decision etc. has done nothing but probably put more pressure on him. Something positive needs to happen soon as Hawks head down the stretch. Need him to come through in big situations.
