That won’t help them. Blaming Stoops for losing to a better team is ridiculous. Riley won’t be there next year.
LOL. Most ridiculous statement I've read on this board. Riley is not going anywhere.

17-3, likely ~22+ wins in his first two years. No scandals. Taking a difficult but popular step with the fan base in firing the DC to try and correct the weakest element of the team. Top ten recruiting class signed for 2018, another top ten class on tap for 2019. Year 2 of a long term contract. Like a $20 million buyout.
I'm not convinced he is the greatest thing ever (like some OU fans), but he at least needs time to fail. Or time to succeed on his own when the program Bob built up has time to fade. In what dimension is Lincoln Riley's job in immediate jeopardy?
This DC opening will tell a lot... word here in Norman is that the University President and Castiglone fired Stoops, not Riley. Ruffin McNeil is on staff and Riley’s Choice for DC, but there is a “consultant specialist” on campus that is currently not allowed to coach the players who is the admins choice. Not good for the admin to pick coaches staff.
Problem at OU is systemic in football outside of the SEC, they can’t tackle. Tackling is atrocious in football today. Everyone is concerned with offense to the point that defense is an afterthought.
It’s like hitting in baseball. This is the first yr that strikeouts led hitting. A fundamental skill isn’t being taught because it isn’t sexy.
. So that’s what Graham has been up to!!there is a “consultant specialist” on campus that is currently not allowed to coach the players who is the admins choice.
The consultant you speak of is Bob Diaco who was ND's DC when we beat them....you remember...the defense that gave up a 3rd and 21 conversion but there was a penalty and then Tulsa converted the 3rd and 31 the next play. He was also head coach at UCONN for a bit. Their D was really good but they couldn't move the ball.but there is a “consultant specialist” on campus that is currently not allowed to coach the players who is the admins choice. I feel for Mike Stoops a little bit. As schools have moved away from actually tackling in practices, the lack of tackling technique and the number of missed tackles has gone up dramatically across football. Heck, the number of missed tackles on a 6'2" 185lb WR in the Dallas/Houston game last night was amazing.
Also, the early OU teams that were really good had phenomenal LBs who could tackle in space (Calmus, Lehman), they had phenomenal DTs that could absolutely destroy the middle against the run (Tommy Harris, Gerald McCoy). When was the last time OU had a difference maker at those positions? I mean, a serious difference maker?

Riley is recruiting very well. OU has very good athletes on defense, but the results were poor. Very good move for OU, if they make a good hire.
Over the last 3 or 4 years of recruiting rankings they get an average defensive recruit of nearly 5.8, and an average offensive recruit of nearly a 5.9. So they are not dealing with a great big talent gap.
Or not coached well and put in the right schemes. It could be that the analysis of the recruits didn't match up to the ratings. My guess is a little of both.Oh I'm sure their ratings are fairly high, but when I see a group of players that can't put pressure on the QB and also get pushed around in the run game it makes me think that they're just not very good. OU was forced to go to man coverage and load the box and they still couldn't generate pressure and still got worked up front. A few years ago they had some studs in Grissom and Beal. I don't see guys like that out there right now.
I'm pretty sure the best LBer from all the FBS schools in OK is Zaven Collins. Glad our coaches have to get creative when they project kids. All OU saw was a giant kid playing QB who ran more than he threw, at a tiny school and a safety that was too slow to play that position in college. I worry some runner sees him and tries to sell him on transferring.Oh I'm sure their ratings are fairly high, but when I see a group of players that can't put pressure on the QB and also get pushed around in the run game it makes me think that they're just not very good.
