Well we should have like 20 million to offer since we literally don’t have any other players. He can come here and sit out with a knee injury and look pretty on the bench if he wants. He’s getting drafted regardless.
Yeah and Florida gets Condon and Haugh to pass on a lottery pick to come back SMFH at this timeline. Stokes ain’t coming here. We are screwed.

I will go on record, we have zero chance, he will be a duck, he‘s wasting Pope’s time and likely along with Freeman were the final blows to his tenure at UK. When this happens, I believe Pope will be relieved of command.
Billy D is now down with the Bulls so maybe they could go ahead and do it and hire him to come fix this mess.

Stokes isn't coming here and he never was. He likes Kansas but there's some logistics he can't get fixed. Nike is putting pressure to pick a Nike school. If he picks Oregon that's a bad look for Pope.
Most likely explanation.

I remember reading his family has some cards in it and would never wear blue. Idk if I made that up or accurate but its been in the back of my head thru this whole production.

Nike says you ain't going to Kansas kid
Yep, Stokes is adamant about not going to Goober U in Lex and Nike desperately doesn't want one of their own going to KU. Stokes is likely fine with heading to Oregon for a massive NIL deal provided by Nike.

Nike tried all they could to help UK, but in the end the coach does matter, even if at a lessened role.

You know the whiff is coming. It’s all he’s got now. Reports say his visit to Kentucky last week did nothing to move the needle lol. Probably weirded him out again.
Yep. Our roster will be the worst out of Pope's 3. Will be an agonizing year. Meanwhile lottery picks are coming back to play for Golden. Pope'e entire team fled the state. Speaks volumes.

My guess is UK had the highest NIL offer and being a Nike school he was "considering" it. If he liked us and Pope he would have committed. Oregon has probably upped their offer to something reasonable now and it gives him the perfect opportunity to keep his Nike money, avoid Adidas, and avoid Pope like the plague. It's the perfect scenario.

Plus he is close to home in Washington

Now is the time to work behind the scenes to save KY basketball. Contact Donovan and Pearl's agents and lay the ground work for a seamless transition. Have some foresight and balls!!!

Best case scenario in my opinion would be to let Pope go at the end of next season unless there is a massive improvement over last season, which seems highly unlikely. Hire a legit HC like an Otzelberger who might actually be able to build the program over 10-12 years instead of a quick fix. Then get the Hell out of his way and support him while he rebuilds this thing, not the bullcrap "Kentucky Standards" mess year one

Matt Jones said that Nike is paying the entire NIL offer. If he goes to Oregon it's because of Nike, and it would say he just didn't want to go to UK. This maybe why Oregon' name is back in play.

I agree with everything but 10-12 years lol. It certainly doesn’t take that long

What year is it? 10-12 year rebuilds are a thing of the past. Michigan basketball went from, winning 8 games, to winning the title in 3 years.

Stokes not coming here- you can bank on it. If I were Stokes, I want to go to a school where coach is going to get me to next level. I would take less money and have a coach make me a better player, so my draft stock is high and get a bigger payday when entering the NBA. Unfortunately, we have a coach that no player can take seriously. Pope is just no cut out to be a coach here or any other major basketball college program. It takes a certain type of coach who will get the most out of their players. Pitino is an excellent example of that type of coach. I always though Tubby Smith was another coach who was able to do this as well.

Oregon going to come in and steal him.
Been saying it for weeks. Hint - He’s standing In middle with Green background above the O
Done deal . West Coast - Near Nike Designers - Ultra Liberal - Great College Town -
Non Stops to LA - Awesome Sports Facilities- A coach that will let him play the 2 as a KOBE type Point Forward.

I wish, but neither Eli or Mitch have the balls to do this. And Pope won't have the guts to admit he's in over his head to the point that it's best to just walk away while he can and save some face. If he understands the assignment, he should understand clearly that he's not meeting the requirements of the assignment.
You can’t fire a coach who won 3 NCAA games in 2 years & got a year automatic extension for making Sweet 16 ? Especially right after you ran off a HOF coach for winning just 1 NCAA GAME in his last 5 years.

Been trying to tell you guys…Kansas not a real option due to Adidas, Kentucky only slightly an option due to a solid offer + Nike money. Who checks a lot of boxes? Oregon. Nike Capital, get to be the man, out west where he’s grown up, etc.

If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, yellow like a duck…he’s a Duck. My 🔮 > Oregon. Lol

If it's Oregon thats worse for Uk
Ehh not really. We're obviously dead in the water currently but that can change with a good hire next year.

Kansas is going all out for Self's last year and a miss helps us on the record only we care about (All time wins) and lets them transition to a former player as coach (J. Vaugh) and that gives us a padding in the W's column for a year or two.

This is all dependent on Rachel Newman Baker making a move next off season on Pope of course
