Self is trying to create the illusion that he’s contemplating retiring. He knows what he’s doing
Self is going nowhere this offseason! End of next season, perhaps, but not now… He can go back to back with the #1 or #2 draft pick with Peterson and Stokes.

If Stokes decision comes down to what Self does, then pencil him in to Kansas now.

Such a bad situation TBH - UK clearly bridesmaid here and if he did come, would likely just be for a giant bag. You need to be getting kids to come because they want to be part of something, not out of default and for the $$. It's soul-less.

Look at UConn right now - kid hits a shot and tells the world that his coach is his idol and mentor. That's what gets the best out of kids and creates culture. Not handing injured studs bags of money so they can sit on the bench and milk an injury.

I'm not sure what happens with Pope, but what he had to do was break things down and build right. Not just throw bags at the next shiney thing. Take a look at what May did at Michigan.

I totally agree with this. Duke has proven signing the top player in the nation every year for the past 10 years doesn’t pay off.
They have at least been to a final 4 and dominate the regular and conference season. We would all love that again. Plus without two monumental collapses which were of no fault of those number one players who balled out they would have probably won a title and played for another. It would be dumb to turn down the best players you can get. They will eventually break thru on talent alone.

Yeah, this did it for me. You can go get two STUDS in the portal for the money we are offering him
In theory you can. In reality Pope has whiffed on every stud of that caliber he has went after in the portal as well. What makes this year any different when his coaching ability, reputation, and momentum are at all time lows?

Yeah JQ really soured me on Pope. He would never get kids to play that hard for him.

AD needs to understand if he's become white noise to these kids. Give him one more year, see what he can do. No HS kids is a bad look though. I was pretty high on Pope at first, but he needed more of plan. Right now he feels built as more of a mid major coach than high D1.

That’s exactly what he is. He is the type of guy who could build a good team every 3-4 years and surprise some people in the tournament here and there to me. Even then he didn’t do that at BYU or Utah Valley which is where he should probably be at before NIL, he never even made one.

We’ve seen this same song and dance from countless players in the past. He is not coming here.
Handcuffing Pope so he doesn’t get anyone else then goes to Kansas. This was a Duke move with Cal all the time. Leading him on then not coming and costing us some really good players that wanted to play for UK.
Now, Pope doesn’t have any eggs in any other basket other than Stokes. 🤞

I was always an advocate of players getting compensated, and there are still great games, but the whole college part of it is a joke now. They aren't even trying to maintain the scholastic part of it. These players are here for 5 or 6 months and gone, either to the NBA or another school. Are classes even an aspect to it anymore? I can't remember the last time there was a story of someone not meeting the criteria of GPA. Just call it the NBA farm system and be done with it.

I think Pope is only looked on this poorly in parts of BBN. I don't think he is seen as just incompetent nationally

"we"? You joined nine months ago. Your multiple accounts are annoying, Charlie.

Sit back down, please - I've been posting since before you were born, the oldest members know me from the beginning. From the glory days of years past, before you indoor weaklings came along.

You're seem to be one the soft YAY SPORTS! fans that came in after post-COVID Calipari and Barnhart and Capaluto lowered our standards. You know nothing of true glory - you know only the shame of 12-14 loss seasons and have been conditioned to accept it. I think you want more of it. In fact I'm sure of it. We true old school fans are ashamed of this behavior. We are embarrassed by this commitment to mediocrity and shameless excuse making and your tacit acceptance of failure and weakness. And now here you are, demanding that we accept it as well.

Well by goodness Brenda...we aren't going to do it.

Or like some of you perfer, we can continue to try and get the best mid majors we can find and try and over achieve. So that when we get lose number 10 we won't be so disappointed.

My Twitter algorithm has gotten a lot of Kansas fan accounts because of the stokes recruitment, a lot of them think it's a lock now and Self is coming back. The question is are their fan accounts as dumb as ours.

It isn't going to happen for this guy. We need to move on as soon as possible.
