There is no doubt that it helped Devine. I hate to think where we would be had we not stepped it up. We were about as weak as it gets. The change physically is noticeable when you see the team in person up close. The problem is that I think there's just a ceiling of some our guys limiting their ability to execute their job description. Alex Davis is one example. Hixson, Farniok are probably 2 others. WRs in some cases lack speed. There's only so much you can do with S&C. You do remember how Iowa steamrolled us last year right? Now we're I think doing a better job of physically holding the spot but we're making too many mistakes at linebacker especially. Then you throw in the issue we have right now at QB.
I guess we’ll see when we play Wisconsin and Iowa this year.

 I'm not going to go so far as to say we'll not get pushed around by them to some degree. We're still starting a freshman at center and a walk on soph at guard. That's not a good recipe. Barry and Domann are still undersized at linebacker. We've got to get better QB play IMO. Period. We should have won this game today.

I still think we need continuity. I’m tired of firing coaches. Give them one more year to try to figure it out. But I’m probably more patient than most.
Barring some kind of miracle turnaround (and anything is possible in Lincoln), these coaches don’t know how to figure it out. If they had the capacity to learn from their mistakes and make positive steps to correct them, wouldn’t we have seen that already? Maybe I’m being too “impatient”, but I keep seeing the same dumb broken record playing over and over again. I see the same old ineffective plays being run over and over again without success. The same ineffective defensive scheme getting pummeled by our opponents. I understand our talent level isn’t great and that exacerbates the problem. This listing ship can’t keep taking on water and expect to stay afloat.

Barry would make a good NG at a lower level program. Like a Montana State or even UNK. He’s just not fluid enough or quick enough to play LB at the Big 10 level. Can’t shed a block, make a tackle in space or cover a receiver. Honas looks overwhelmed too. He has very poor tackling technique

Yeah....the only change I would make for sure is a new DC. Like I said in the other thread about needing to make the change, it isn't the personell issues that are the issue with me, it's that the teams know what to expect in certain situations and it's always what they expect and they run plays to exploit and they always work. Then we end up losing instead of winning. When it happens going all the way back to UCF it is an issue that isn't going to be fixed without a change.

I'm not looking for perfection on D, but when it's the same thing all of the time it is a pattern that isn't changing and will keep losing Frost games instead of winning.

I hope Frost does make the change. But then we have to have stability.

If there was a second change to D it would be a new OLB, but again when Davis whiffs on multiple tackle attempts in a single play that is a player performance issue.
Frost was definitely calling out his coaches in his post game presser yesterday. Gotta be careful though... sooner or later it’s you.

Maybe we should make more offseason videos of us in mullets rowing boats. That seemed to help the buy in

Frost seemed to think that conditioning would really change things.

I really don't think we are well conditioned...alot of bad weight on the lines, some players getting too big and lacking flexibility...getting run down/over in the 4th qtr...but, hey lots of off-season Twitter clips and #wardaddyup promotions

Martinez couldn't find guys that were open or hit them the few times he did find them. AM had a very bad game. If he's average we win going away. No way to sugar coat it and he knows it.

Martinez says the same thing after every game... it's on me, I need to make plays, I need to perform.

Hell, I could go play and say that but it doesn't mean I'll ever be able to make the plays. He's not the guy. Why is it so hard for people to accept that?

Honas looked so good on film. What happened to that guy??

Listened to a little bit of Steve Taylor this PM. He said he thinks Scott Frost is smart enough to make a change. I.E. coaches. Was very critical of the defensive coaches as well as Scott himself. Basically he and others are not happy and Scott needs to prove he and his coaches are P5 coaches even if it means making changes.

Gotta agree with Steve.

Guys, it’s pretty easy.

I say this as a Purdue fan who has always hated Nebraska. If you guys were a team I feel nothing either way about, like Maryland, and I was just taking a clinical look... meaning removing bias either way (which includes the “sky is falling” bias on this board):

1. Fire chinander... If he was Purdue’s DC is jump off my balcony... people who think he sucks in your fan base aren’t just being negative nancies ... he SUCKS. As a fan of a team who plays you every year, I hope he never leaves

2. Start Vedral.. Martinez is hurt (because he’s trying to run in a conference where you see what happened to Plummer yesterday) and also he’s not a pocket passer. But there’s something else I haven’t seen referenced here. Coaches in college and the NFL nod when a first year QB lights it up.. they nod and say “we will get you in the off-season.” And they go to work. And if you aren’t a pure passer and there are throws you just can’t make, opposing coordinators will have something for you the next season. That’s why Purdue QBs don’t fall off after their first season.. whatever they are, good or bad, they are passers first and everything else second. Opposing coaches know that there are things that Martinez is missing mentally and from an accuracy standpoint.

3) you don’t need to recruit a team full of Nebraska two stars to prove a point, but you need more farm tough kids that you used to have to weed out the pansies. Cause I saw more pansies yesterday than I’ve ever seen at Nebraska .. to that point...

4) frost needs to bring back a bunch of tough guys from yesteryear and stand in front of them and the team and say “if you don’t want to toughen up, there’s the ****** door.”

Watch.. Brohm might send double digit guys packing and we don’t have an overall toughness problem

I don’t necessarily disagree, but I’d rather gamble on these coaches for one more year then fire some of them and install new schemes. It’s a gamble either way and we haven’t had 3 years of the same staff around here in a LONG time. I’d like to see the results after next year and let the chips fall where they may.
