But he won't be playing at USC. A source close to the program confirmed that the Trojans are officially no longer recruiting Sidney, who had verbally committed to USC. The decision, according to the source, came from within the administration. UCLA also backed off in its recruitment of the 6-foot-9 power forward out of Fairfax High (Calif.) in a similar fashion, even though there was a strong chance the Bruins were going to land Sidney prior to him committing to USC.</p>

A possible destination for Sidney, ranked No. 7 by ESPN's Scouts, Inc., could be Mississippi State. Sidney is originally from Jackson, Miss., and moved to Los Angeles in 2007. According to a source, he was visiting friends and family in the Starkville area over the weekend. A source close to the Mississippi State program said that Sidney would be a good fit with the Bulldogs because of the proximity to home and the potential that he could play alongside Jarvis Varnado if the latter withdraws from the NBA draft. A Varnado-Sidney combination would give the Bulldogs the most feared frontcourt in the SEC.
</p>• Mississippi State coach Rick Stansbury didn't try to hold back Varnado from declaring for the draft. But the hope is that Varnado will return for another season to become the NCAA's all-time shot block leader as well as put on some more bulk. He wasn't given a consensus first-round report by the NBA's advisory committee. If Varnado comes back and Sidney joins the squad with the return of Barry Stewart on the perimeter, the Bulldogs have a shot to be a top-15 squad.

Why are these schools backing off. Did he tell them he was going to MSU or did they decide not to recruit him anymore for another reason?

A friend who is a big North Carolina fan told me today that Roy Williams won't recruit one-and-done players either. And, honestly, I can see some valid reasons not to take those players. I think we should definitely sign Sidney if we get a chance to, but I doubt that if we do anyone will ever again say that Jamont Gordon was the most selfish player we've ever had.

It looked like the coaches wanted him in school but the administration wouldn't let him in. Maybe he simply didn't qualify by their standards.

If they don't want him and y'all decide you don't, feel free to pass him down our way.

<div class="messagebody"> AD Mike Garrett asked Sydney not to sign yet because they were still evaluating his amatuer status and that upset Renardo's dad a bit. Garrett is concerned with the relationship between Renardo's dad and several shoe companies as part of the AAU circuit. Tim Floyd wants Renardo, and Renardo wants to play for Floyd, but he may just be too high profile at this point. USC's baskettball program is under heavy scrutiny and the media and anti-SC fans have been constantly circling, looking to strike. A lot of this is carry over due to the success of the football team. Garrett knows that signing Sydney will fuel the next wave of shadey profiteers, con-artists and muck racking journalists looking to capitilize on the anti-SC sentiment.

Off the top of my head, I can think of two from USC (Mayo and Derozan), two from UCLA (Love and Holiday), and two from UNC (Marvin Williams and Brandan Wright). Ed Davis, a freshman at UNC, must have at least thought about it because he went to the trouble to announce that he was staying.
