Can you recall the last coach that tried to coach through something like this in-season? I forget if Self’s issues a few years back were related to cancer or heart trouble/issues?

Self missed games as recent as this past season with AFib

I believe there were two women's teams in recent time that had their women's head coach (female) have treatment in season.

It depends on the type of cancer he’s been diagnosed and the treatment path. If he is being treated with him and not therapy or hormone therapy, and it’s really stage, you can probably function without missing much if any time. If he’s obviously later stage and involves surgery, chemotherapy and radiation thats a different story.

hopefully, it’s the former and wishing him the best.

Agree. In reality, it’s all bad with a distinction between “good” bad and just bad. Tremendous progress has been made in the fight against cancer but once diagnosed it never really goes away. It just comes back at different times and in different places.

My prayers go out to Coach Pike. As someone who has been battling stage 4 Pancreatic cancer for the past two years, I can tell you that this battle is not an easy one. He is now a fellow cancer warrior. Hall85 is right. Different cancers demand different chemos and different people have different reactions to the treatment.

I certainly hope you're doing better. I've heard there are some new treatments showing promise, and I'm praying they work for you.

You’ve had one of those difficult roads for sure. Encouraging to see the results of the oral pancreatic drug from Revolution Medicine that has shown favorable results for increasing expectancy.

I have been very fortunate. I am doing very well with chemo and a clinical trial drug that no one has heard of ASP-3082. It’s great to see daraxonrasib be approved by the FDA and offers another option for patients like me. But my faith in God, my faith in my Drs at MSK and my family have have pulled me through where I was close to death.

Thanks for sharing your treatment my wife, how positive is going. That’s great news.

I’ll be the first to critique some of the things of our healthcare system, but your story underscores the tremendous amount of expertise and options that exist here in the US.. We are fortunate to have institutions like MSK and Penn within a drive to be able to take advantage of the research, treatments and clinical trials specifically with cancer. It’s the best in the world.

My wife is a cancer survivor and spent her entire career in clinical operations running and monitoring trials, mostly in oncology. When she was dealing with the treatment and surgeries in 1999, her mantra was similar to yours: believe in your treatment plan, believe in your care team, and have faith.

Hearing that Pikiell is getting overwhelming support throughout the country. This is important because he will face a difficult road back and anything this emotionally positive will help him.

I am sure when he coaches Rutgers at home and on the road he will get a well deserved standing ovation from the fans.

One of the good guys in the sport.
