This is what happens at a school like that, when you lose 4 in a row, including losing at home to Belmont and Liberty.

Never knew what the Bruins seen in Alford in the first place...He always seemed pretty arrogant because he won a National title under Knight.

I always felt he would end up at Indiana but maybe the timing was never right or maybe he never wanted that job.

UCLA might go after Rick Pitino, which makes a lot of sense because he would win and get fans back to the games. No one goes to UCLA games right now.

Yep, how in the world with all their talent and resources can they lose to those two schools? On of their ex players, a season ticket holder, was interviewed by the L A Times and he said this is the least motivated, organized, fundamentally sound Bruin team ever.

Alford had a pretty steady stream of NBA talent coming to UCLA. Then word got out that if you wanted to touch the ball you had to wrestle it away from his kid, and the talent level slipped.

Except his kid graduated 2 years ago, so no impact on last year or this year. Plus, his kid finished his career like 5th on all time assist mark, rarely turned the ball over, hit over 40% from 3 and got to the FT line more than anyone on the team (hitting 83% of his FTs). He was actually a decent player.

Alford's problem is he is an arrogant prick, who few, if anyone (alum or admin), can stand to be around after a season or two. He is a good enough recruiter and coach to be moderately successful, so schools are reluctant to let him go. But, he's not good enough to put up with him at all cost, like Bobby Knight. I guarantee you both Iowa and NM (at least those who had to deal with him) were more than ready for him to move on despite his successes at each. I am sure UCLA was just as ready to cut him loose as soon as a few losses piled up.

Pretty spot on...Not sure if he will keep coaching or not but he was just at a blue blood (sort of, ha) and the only place to go now is down a bit and to a place where basketball isn't that big of a deal and where the AD will not give a **** about him and just deal with football.

I could see...

Miami
VT (which I think will open after this season with Buzz taking off for a bigger/better gig)

I can't imagine he will ever coach in college again. He just started coaching pro ball in Greece.

He's no worse than many coaches in the game and UCLA has always been filthy. If I'm them I'm burning the phone up with his agent right now.

Pitino would do very well at UCLA. The only thing that might hold him back is if all the good West Coast bag men are already working for other Pac-12 schools.

All of this. Bryce couldn't defend a lick, but he tried hard and was a good player.

I worked in the athletic dept a year after Steve left Missouri State. He was not missed, I'll tell you that.

He was a better game coach with his father on the bench, but, that said, UCLA has unrealistic expectations and it will be fun to see them continue to disappoint

If Bryce had a different last name he would have got a lot more love, I think people really don't realize how good he was.

Alford left Iowa just ahead of getting the boot. He wasn't very popular at Iowa and extremely big headed.

One of many examples of Alford & his ego, but he once got a John Deere mower from a dealer around IC to try as a demo with a steep discount if wanted it. Never returned it to dealer, so they sent him a bill & he was furious. Never paid, so they came to get it & that's when the 'do you know who I am?' line was dropped. He never sat well with Iowa after several of those type of instances.
