He shot 41% from 3 this year and 47% on catch and shoot jumpers. 4th among guards that played at least 60 games. :joy:

My Rockets have no business being there.. they had a lottery pick locked up and all they had to do was lose one of their last two games. And while Houston is pissing me off lately, and admittedly they might be THE most easy team to dislike, they are still crazy talented. That team should have been a 5 or 6 seed anyways, they just didn't have a coach after 15 games. While beating the LAC last year was a fluke (no Houston fans will admit this), they deserved to be a top seed.

I'm also pretty sure Pop couldn't care less about beating GSW in the regular season. Those games were just as much fact-finding missions as they were about winning. With Curry out for 2 weeks, and probably won't be 100% the rest of the way, I'm inclined to give SAS the nod.

This is a pretty terrible take. Injuries change the contender picture pretty much every year, but sure. Let's just say that the team with the best record and point differential in the NBA last year was lucky and had "no business winning the title last year" despite 1) being the first team since the first Bulls title to win a title despite no players having Finals experience (aka playoff reps seem to be a meaningful thing), and 2) never facing an elimination game. I mean, Love was out, and he scores like 19/game so just add 19 to the Cavs' totals and they win every game except 1. Then add in Kyrie who scored like 50 against the Spurs so that's another 50 points. I mean, fully healthy Cleveland outscores the Warriors by ~ 50/game. It's just math.
Well the pressure is off them now, anyway. That all-time season record would have been scoffed at by many had they not won a championship. But not now as they'll have a very valid excuse. I want to see the Spurs deny Lebron, personally.
Yes, nothing has changed since then. Will coach Mark Jackson's isolation heavy offense survive such stout Clippers' defenders as Matt Barnes? Or will Jermaine O'Neal post-ups against Glen "Big Baby" Davis be enough to keep the Warriors in the game until David Lee can check back in?

Clippers absolutely choked away a trip to the WCF against my Rockets last year, and Cliff Paul never seems to get far in the playoffs.
Or will the absence of the best player in the league play a huge factor in the outcome of next series. To think that either the clippers or blazers can't beat a warriors team without Steph is ridiculous.

Because it was the Cav's first year with Lebron back and Kevin Love. Any other time, I'd agree. but this was a formation that struggled to get going at first (just like many superteams do). They were under .500 in January, then went on to go 30-9 or something. They were a trending team, and IIRC many thought they would win the title.
Lebron James and a bunch of scrubs took Golden State to Game 6.. No Love, No Irving, No Varejao that's really all that needs to be said.
You can't just add missed points, either. Basketball isn't simply "math" in the way you think it is. Love was a body on the floor, something the Cavs desperately needed to give everyone a breather. They were losing games because they were ran out of the building with so many injuries.
And I get that this happens most year. That's sports. But the same can, and will be said for GSW if they don't win it all this year.
He's terrible. Those #'s are skewed because he plays very limited minutes and mostly against second teams. Let's not act like he's top 5 anything..
Will they even let him play for game 6, even if he's 100%, is another question. GSW had no problem sitting him against Houston (which was the ultimate *****-slap move on my Rockets, lmfao).. He's THAT important they may roll the dice.

I was being sarcastic with the math part, obviously. Golden State was the best team all year last year by almost any metric. That Lebron took the Cavs to 6 was pretty awesome, but so many like to assume that with Love and Irving they win (oftentimes saying things like "easily" or "no doubt"). I don't think that's the case - the primary value of Irving and Love (AV... come on) is shot creation, which Lebron can provide better than anyone else in the league. So the magnitude of their absences is not as bad as it could be, and the players that stepped into their shoes (primarily Dellavadova and TT) were better fits next to Lebron, particularly with how they wanted to play the Warriors - physical, crash the glass, body up on D. But the Warriors were better over the whole season, even after the Cavs found themselves after Lebron's sabbatical.

They were good role-players. Standing in for all-stars. I think both Irving and Love are wildly overrated but if you think they were better off without them you're nuts. It forced James Jones to play significant minutes off the bench while LeBron was playing 45 minutes+.
I just remembered this. They used Iggy to solely run Lebron down. Like, his only job.. tired out Lebron. Hey, they took advantage of the injury situation, smart move. But that wouldn't have worked so well with Irving and Love in there to provide offense. JR Smith was far and away their 2nd best player that series. Woof.

Let's not forget that they smoked Atlanta (solid team) and beat Chicago (solid team) without Love - they were deep up front with Mozgov, Thompson, Love, and Lebron (who can/should play 4 quite a bit). And Dellevadova had a heck of a series. Irving > Delly, but in that matchup Delly's style is what you need. It's about fit and matchups. Did Lebron get tired? Sure he did. But the Warriors also adjusted and won an ugly series.

And they looked a lot better once they switched up their lineups, put Iggy on Lebron, and the uncharacteristic bad shooting by many of the Warriors regressed to the mean (just Google stories on what was wrong with GSW shooting - remember Green passing up open 3s?). I mean, you're drawing a very strong conclusion ("win it fairly easily") based on how they played in games 1-3, in which the Cavs won 2 of 3 close games (close games are mostly tossups). Small sample size theater already - 3 games and 12 quarters + 2 OTs. And you ignore the rest of the series, which the Warriors controlled. And you ignore the circumstantial evidence from this year where Golden State was awesome and the Cavs fired their coach, even though both had almost identical rosters as last year, and the Warriors clowned the Cavs. And ignores every stat (advanced and otherwise) from last year that showed the Warriors were an overall better team.
They beat a vastly overrated Houston team and never had to play the Clippers. They barely faced a health pointguard the entire playoffs.

No kidding. I'm just saying the evidence goes one way, and at best it's Cavs-Warriors would have been close last year w/Love and Irving. But to speculate that the Cavs would win easily just ignores most of the evidence, and yet many state it like a fact that Cavs roll the Warriors. I just don't get the confidence in that prediction. But the one thing GSW has going for them, is they really came on strong at the end as well. It turns out, that team was on track to be the best regular season team of all time. At the end of the Finals in 2015 I thought for sure Cavs would have rolled them. Now, seeing just how good GSW was about to become, I'm not quite as confident.
But in the end, there's no evidence to suggest one thing or another. Because you can't, and never will be able to, quantify how good Cleveland was last year and how good they could have beem. The Warriors were -220 to win vs the Cavs before the series started on some sites and -180 on others.
And I'll say the same thing about GSW.. Win or lose, they are the best team this year. All things equal, the title is theirs. But it may not be so. I'm not sure if they can beat Cleveland, SAS, or LAC without Curry.

The problem with Golden State is you can see a different team when Curry is out of lineup and they are not as powerful on offense when Curry is not playing for Golden State. They will probably finish off Houston tomorrow night at Home leading 3-1. Then the LA Clippers vs Portland is 2-1 Clippers and their 4th game tonight so LA Clippers could have this wrapped up Wednesday night at Home if LA Clippers win tonight. Then the Golden State vs LA Clippers would be the next match-up and this series could have a few games if not all without Stephen Curry. WIthout Curry the LA Clippers have a great shot taking down Golden State and if that is the case and LA Clippers could pull the upset then the SA Spurs, OKC, or LA Clippers would have an outstanding shot to make it to the 2016 NBA Finals. Even with an injured Curry his game still could be off in the next 3-4 weeks and the SA Spurs or OKC Thunder would then be the favorite to head into the NBA Finals this year.
