Mike Tomlin has a ton of wins and almost as many head scratcher calls. Why go for the fake in that situation?

I’d say for sure that he’s part of a great organization. I don’t think he’s a terrible coach but nothing too special either.

I'd agree that he's far from terrible. I'd argue that the only current HC that would fit the "special" category would be Belichick.
I think Tomlin at least qualifies as above average.
I am sure that most teams in the NFL would trade in their current HC for Tomlin.

NFL stats to consider:
-In a league where salary caps and draft rules are designed to keep each team competitive, Tomlin has never had a team finish below .500
-He is the forth most tenured coach in a league nicknamed the "Not For Long" league
-20 HCs have been hired since 2015. There are only 32 teams
-He holds the forth winningest record amongst current HCs with their current team. Sits only behind Belichick, the Rams and Bears coaches
-He has a winning or par record against every team he's played more than one game against except the Jets
-He has as a Super Bowl which matches or betters 10 of the current 32 teams

Tomlin got tossed under a bus by that dickhead known as LeVeon Bell who felt disrespected by the Steelers 15 million dollar offer for one seasons worth of work, in fact the whole team got run over by that Greyhound double decker. Bell accepts that offer, Tomlins job isn't even in question.

He doesn’t seem to have a great feel for the game. How many games over the years have had WTH endings where a call was made by him that failed and failed clearly?

As far as Bell, Tomlin allowed him to feel like he could do what he wanted with star rules and teams rules since he got to the team. If Bell being petchulent cost this team the playoffs then being shown it was okay to be that way falls on Tomlin as well.

I’m not saying fire him but he needs some off season consultations with his staff on looking at the when and when not to try to be the out of the box genius.

Steelers fan here. I would say that Tomlin is an exceptional leader, but a poor game manager. And his teams consistently lose to the worst team on their season schedule. And to do that with a hall of fame QB and the talent they have is inexcusable. That said, the Steelers could certainly do worse. And since the Steelers stick with their coaches, there's no chance Tomlin will go anywhere. Only three head coaches in the last 50 years!

Bell makes my *** tired. I sincerely hope no NFL team picks him up--no loyalty, no class and 15 million a year is not enough? C'mon man--you ain't running General Motors-you're PLAYING a game.

I think Tomlin may be a great "leader" but not a great coach...and im a Steelers fan.

He makes so many bad in game challenges, questionable play calls, head scratching personnel decisions as well.

One thing i can say as a fan i hope they clean house on the defensive coaches from top to bottom except DL coach Dunbar/Mitchell...eveyone else needs to go. Too many highly drafted players on that side not to be performing at a higher level. Guys getting worse as their career goes on.

Was ready to move on from LeBeau style defense 2-3 years BEFORE LeBeau left. Then what do we do? Promote the LB coach Butler who is running same damn system but not as well...#downgrade. Butler is an above average LB coach and id keep him if he wanted to coach backers again. But as a DC our system is too outdated. Too easy to read and Butler too predictable.

Back to Tomlin one thing people dont seem to take into account is the fact that hes had a hall of fame QB his entire tenure...THAT MATTERS BIG TIME. Not as hard to keep putting peices around a HOF QB and still be pretty good on offense. So again his resume is top 2-3 in the league and he deserves respect for it. But it must be taken in perspective .

So again i think hes a good leader and guys DO wanna play for him. Tjat said being a good leader isnt mutually exclusive with being a great coach and i dont think Tomlin is one.

If he guts his defensive staff i think he gets more time( i think he gets time anyway). I guess im just HOPING he makes wholesale changes on that side of the ball.

Top 2-3 resume no doubt.

Did i misunderstand ur point about even or on par with everyone but Jets? U meant New England right? Theyve owned my Steelers.

Great points. Tomlin has a knack for wasting timeouts early in the half (on failed challenges among other things) and then saving the remaining time outs to the point where we've actually run out of time and had a timeout yet to use! And the personnel decisions... I cringe when I hear about a draft pick that Tomlin insisted on drafting. It doesn't usually work out very well. He needs to let the scouting department do their job.
