Title game predictions:

8A - Nequa Valley over Lincoln Way East. NV seems to be building something, watch for a breakout year,
7A - Batavia over Mt. Carmel. Revenge from last yr playoffs,
6A - Cary-Grove over East St. Louis. CG pound for pound maybe best program in state.
5A - Kankakee over Fenwick. Can we all agree 5A is the IHSA’s red headed step child?
4A - Joliet Catholic over Sacred Heart Griffin. JCA run game couldn’t be stopped last season. Will anyone this yr?
3A - Byron over Wilmington.
1A/2A - Lena Winslow. See CG above about best lb for lb.

I am not sure Batavia would have beaten Wheaton North in a rematch. The first game went to overtime and Wheaton North was a machine at the end of the season.

No doubt CG is a machine but it’s essentially all new parts. I’m behind them 100% and will eat crow when they prove me wrong.

Agree completely. Was mainly speaking Batavia/MC as they are the two most are picking this year.

It certainly works as motivation. It does nothing on the field other than maybe overhype them a bit early on. Both Batavia and MC are well versed on playoff football and how to prepare and execute.

If Wilmo is 2A I like their chances. I do not know enough about the field to know who else is tough. I'm sure the usual suspects will be hanging around.

That works 2 ways….. Tell that to a bunch of 17-18 year old kids who lost a tough one at BR the following week and spent equal amount of time in the weight room thinking about it.

4A. I saw the JCA-SHG game last year. I also saw the JCA-IC game last Friday. JCA won last year because an undersized, underclassmen SHG couldn't stop those two monster RBs. They aren't there anymore. SHG has an almost entirely senior squad, a returning all-state QB, speed to burn and nine receivers, any on of whom Coach Leonard says would have started on any of his past teams. Plus this is Leonard's last year and his players are highly motivated to give him a sixth state title.

Call me a homer but I think they'll do it.

You must do it on the field but the motivation can also deliver a more focused preparation and strengthened will.
It is not always about the game day running through a wall rah-rah stuff.
