Looks like Marty Cordero put in a bid for an Omaha only state baseball tournament using Werner Park and Tal Anderson Field. I like this idea as I don't really think that Haymarket Park truly embraces baseball outside of the Husker and Saltdogs. I know that the last couple years that Haymarket hasn't been available on Saturday due to the Huskers being at home. In talking to local coaches and people involved with baseball in the area, it feels like Haymarket is inconvenienced by having to host high school baseball, while places like Werner Park goes out of their way to host baseball games when the Stormchasers aren't in town and are more than happy to have the kids playing there. What does everyone else think about this?

My son is playing for a championship at Werner tonight, and it's been an amazing experience for all of these boys to play at Werner. I'm sure Haymarket would have been just as cool, but it is kind of a bummer that they had to play the first round at Den Hartog and Sherman. The only hesitancy I'd have is whether hosting the whole enchilada at Omaha would cause a more dense schedule where teams have to play earlier in the morning and later at night. I'm 100% against that as it's already a grueling week as it is.
Yes...that's partially why the action on the bids were tabled so NSAA officials could check out UNO's facilities.
Yeah, I understood that. I probably didn't read close enough but I thought it said the early games would all be played at Tal Anderson and the later rounds all at Werner. If that's right, then I'm still a little concerned about earlier mornings and later nights. If not, so much the better.
