I really hope Henderson changes Small to Friday night this weekend. Pilks last 5 starts he's gone:

4.2
4.2
6.1
4.2
3.1

I know it's not like Small is super efficient either but he's lasting longer than Pilk and obviously giving us better results. Pitching Small gives us a better chance on Friday to not have to use as much bullpen and also maybe switching things up for Pilk might be good for him.

I've always liked the strategy of pitching your best pitcher in the 2nd game of a 3 game series. That gives you a better chance to use your best relievers twice (in game 1 and game 3). We should stick with Pilk/Small/Billingsley. Pilk just needs to start with his best stuff and eliminate unproductive pitches. He needs to get though the lineup once under 50 pitches. Otherwise, it's going to be the same result.

Winning game 1 in a super especially on the road is so important. Gotta start your best arm. That is small. Or heck, based on the tourney its France!

Exactly what I was thinking, but I expect Gary to stick with the standard rotation with France coming in at the first sign of trouble Friday or Saturday. I’ve got as much faith in France as any of them.

That makes way too damn much sense. No way Henderson will go that route.

I would go Small/Billingsley/France or some order of those 3. We can use Pilk as a lefty out of the bullpen but he's just not dependable right now as a starter. Might even start France in the second game but he just pitched 7 innings on Monday.

I like that scenario. But, only half-jokingly if one of them gets a 10 run lead I might pull them and put in Cole Gordon. Just when you write him off, he pulls a rabbit out of the hat like he did during the regional. Gutsy, clutch performance when you least expect it.
