Starting Five?

So, people who know, who starts, who is in the rotation, and what kinds of games can we expect from them?

(I've been on a sports roller coaster with Mets/Rutgers/All Blacks; need some down the road speculation.)

looks like a big lineup vs. OOC weaker opponents. I could definitely see a guard coming in early to spell one of the F mans. I like starting the 5 that deserve it, even if matchup wise it isnt optimal.

Interesting. This lineup would seemingly give us more depth as our only "true" 3 is Laurent, and he will come off the bench. I thought they might go with Williams in the starting lineup and Daniels off the bench (playing starter's minutes) as the spark.

If Daniels improves, he might have that spot. I expect him and Williams to compete a lot this year for minutes. I think with tuning, DJ could be a great 3. He has the ability and has been putting in extra shots supposedly.


I am fine with Laurent being a spark off the bench at the small forward/wing type position.EJ sees it everyday, I trust him putting Daniels there over Williams. I think throughout the season though, you have a good fight for who really deserves that spot. If Daniels cuts his turnovers to 1 a game and tightens up his defense, you have a decent player.

My organized basketball career deservedly ended in 7th grade so I don't pretend to have any real expertise, but I've been a men's basketball season ticket holder for more than 25 years and seen a lot of players come through the RAC, and Daniels really intrigues me. Many of his shots look really good but they just don't fall. He seems to have a good handle, but then he commits dumb turnovers. I really feel that he has legitimate talent, but for some reason it just hasn't come together for him. I'm hoping another year and playing with Sanders makes a difference.

He will dribble into his shots in transition and get to the elbow in the half court. He averaged 8 last year, that number will go up, the turnovers will come down. Look guys, without Bishop on Sanders`s wing I really would not be as optimistic as I am.
But I know you guys will have to see it to believe it.

This with Doorson hurt ... who am I missing? No one, I think.

I would think Foreman can slide to PF at times, and RU can go with a 3-guard line-up at times, with Grier (6'4" or so) as the WF position.

RU basically goes just 9 deep, unless Goode can truly help, and until Doorson comes back. And a little short players at PF and C. I would think RU would need TWO post-type players in the next class, with Lewis graduating, and Freeman to be a Senior that year. After this season RU would have just Freeman, Diallo and Doorson, plus Foreman in a pinch, at the PF/C positions.

Agree. He didn't live up to the shooter label at all last year but if he is going to contribute this year it has to be as the three point shooter receiving kick outs from Sanders and to a lesser extent Daniels. Not a PG. I can definitely see him as the third guard in a lot of three guard lineup. Got to have SOMEONE on the floor willing to pull the trigger from outside. And I don't want it to be Foreman.

That's what I thought and felt Daniels was the closest to a #1 between him and Williams.
Also ( on this board) heard Goode might be the back-up

Other than with Sanders, don't think it will matter much who starts....

He is turning out to be a difference maker by all accounts

I like this lineup. I expected Grier to start at the 3 since I heard a talk about a 3 guard lineup but was also rooting for Foreman to win the starting job assuming he worked on his outside game this offseason

No doubt. Sander will have to beat defenders and give Daniels the look. I follow your lead though.

Our season will be 2 wins better if both of them run an offense without turning the ball over more than 1-2 times a game. Actually. maybe 4-5 wins.

Have to say, I do not like Daniels starting. Just going by last year, I would rather have Daniels be the 6th man and be the spark. as soon as he starts to be out of control, then we can take him back out.

I am hoping that WIlliams and Goode can own most of the minutes at shooting guard. To have a sherpshhooter out there at all times spreads out the defense and will work in our favor.

A few points:

1. I know Daniels has his faults -- he can be out of control/turnover prone, and isn't a natural shooter -- but he needs to play 25+ mpg because we need some senior leadership in the backcourt.

2. From what I read, I'm not sure Goode has the athleticism to play more than 6-8 mpg as a spot-up shooter. So I think we're going to war with basically three guards (Sanders, Daniels, Williams) plus Grier as a G/WF swingman. Hopefully Goode will prove the naysayers wrong on this point, because it sure would be nice to have a guy out there who can hit a long range jumper consistently.

3. In that regard, will Williams regain the shooting form he had in high school, when he was widely regarded as one of the best shooters in NYC?

4. The WF position scares me a bit. Foreman has never shown an ability to hit an outside shot. His skill set seems more "4" than "3", except he's undersized for a PF. But who knows, guys improve a lot by junior year, so maybe he can take the next step as a 3.

5. I really hope Doorson's injury heals up quickly so that he doesn't have to redshirt. We will need his size when the B1G conference schedule rolls around, and we can't afford him coming back in January and being rusty.

6. I am really excited to see what Sanders brings to the table. There hasn't been this much buzz about a recruit on the Banks since Corey Chandler and Mike Rosario. Hopefully this one works out better than those did...

Not confirming anything...just my thoughts on the matter.

I've been consistent in saying that the starters won't be as important as who finishes. Practice is going to go a long way to determining minutes from game to game

Not as scared with Foreman at the 3. As long as he keeps his handle low, I think he can do a lot. He needs to rebound and help there.

We all know we need to score, but to say Rutgers is going to recruit lights out scorers is probably not realistic right now.


A ryan Johnson type was great. He struggled with academics,though. That is a player we want and need to look for.
