If this is true and this is how it works out, then congrats to Martinez. He beat out a very good, talented Gebbia. That’s no easy task with him be as consistent as he has been, a very accurate thrower and a QB that won’t make mistakes (or many mistakes). It was just a practice and doesn’t exactly mean everything but it’s a good sign to what we will hear about our starting QB. I’m just glad we finally have two solid QBs in which either could be starting. About time we got good QB depth.

Not to pee on your cherrios, but we really don't know how good Gebbia is. He has played in two spring games and a year on the scout team. No games so how do we really know? We don't. I don't see how you can bestow "consistent", "accurate thrower" and "wont make mistakes" when he hasn't played. And to add, just having two QB's doesn't mean either or both are going to be good, they come with great credentials but both are young and inexperienced. It could be a challenge all year.

Frost did say he was going to have a QB picked in time to prepare for Akron and that time is now so there "could" be legs to this. The starter would take most of the snaps.

I think Gebbia will get his shot, maybe not starting.

It wasn’t really a practice but rather some 7 on 7 and 11 on 11 drills. Each qb took the same number of snaps against the same defense.

Exactly...

And the EXACT same thing could be said about Martinez. We have no clue just how good or bad he is. All we seen was one red and white game. This can go both ways. I guess we can twist it around favor which ever QB we prefer to win the battle.

Jesus, get over it. This skinny crap is getting beyond old and bit retarded now. Wow, what a reason no to pick a QB. “Oh coach, we can’t play Gebbia he’s skinny. That will cause us to lose, cause him to make bad reads, bad throws, it will cause him to audible into a bad play call and so on”

It will cause him to get crushed by 330 pound Defensive Tackle

Nice try but I quoted what YOU said about Gebbia. You were the one saying the adjectives on him when there is no history or evidence. You said it, back it up, own it.

The facts are pretty clear, both are young and inexperienced. One has basically three years of high school under his belt
Think about that. The other was recruited to a different system requiring different skills. Bottom line is neither is experienced in major college footbsll and the bright lights.

There will be growing pains and lumps this year.

Let’s all just wait until SF makes the announcement and I’m speculating it will be some time this afternoon...

You can bet the team and staff already know who he is..

Great to have two very good options. Wonder if TG would transfer if he’s not starter or getting playing time later this season?

Gebbia was recruited to be a pocket passer for Mike Riley's offense. Under Frost, the QB run is a featured part of the offense. There is no dispute about this

The kid is not built to take a lot of physical punishment. I'm not saying that Gebbia can't take a hit, he can. Whether he can physically endure a large volume of hits in a system which requires him to do so over the course of 12 games is questionable if not doubtful.

Gebbia is a very talented passer. He should play in a system which is designed to protect him as he slings bullets from the pocket. He would fit nicely at a school like USC, he is out of his element, a mismatch, at Nebraska now. That's my opinion.

Thanks for you OPINION and your break down of your OPINION. Glad Frost nor Walters sees it like you and kept Gebbia and I’m glad they did because he about pulled off the starting spot. Shows how far off you are on your opinion brotha.

If he is did not win the starting spot, my opinion is further confirmed.

Not even close, you do realize Martinez barely won this right??? If your right then Martinez is a bad fit for us too. It’s funny though, just because Gebbia lost a super tight, close call for the starting spot only proved your point?? Wow bro

Its not that difficult, mate.

Two talented QBs fighting for the starting spot.

One QB is a highly recruited 2nd year redshirt player signed by a former coach to lead a drastically different offensive system.

The other QB is a highly recruited 1st year player signed by the current coach to lead his offense.

It was always Martinez' job to lose. Congrats to Gebbia for making it close.

Not that I really care who starts, because I trust the coaches to play whomever they feel most comfortable with, but Martinez is listed at 25 lbs. heavier than Gebbia. 220 lbs vs 195 is quite a bit of difference when taking shots all season long from some pretty sizeable defenders.

Hell yeah.....the Big10 has no shortage of big, mean DLinemen & LBs. It'll be rough enough for AM but I would be afraid Gebbia literally might get broke in half. Especially considering he doesn't have the speed to dodge brutal, vicious tackles like AM has.

Using Gebbia as an excellent back-up qb makes a lot of good sense to me. He's a damn good qb who is a terrific asset for us when needed. Supposedly he's a very good throwing the ball. Let's use him for that. No need to get the guy cremated running the ball.

If history tells us anything, we are going to need a backup QB to start some games for us. Who knows what happens if Gebbia gets a shot in live action and tears things up for us. I just hope he sticks around because at some point he's going to play.
