Football Starmount at East Surry

Any thoughts on this game?

It’s the Pardue Bowl as siblings Coach Josh Pardue (SHS) takes on Coach Caleb Pardue (ES) in Pilot Mountain.

Hopefully, the Rams can start off better in this game and cut down on penalties.

East Surry OL was big and physical, but didn't have the team speed or the athletes as Statesville. Starmount by 10

We had some trouble against Mount Airy upfront as they were big and physical as well.

Should be a good matchup. East Surry seemed to play Statesville better this year. I was honestly surprised at how the MA game went for SM. Not surprised they won but at the way the game flowed to get to that point. I think SM squeaks this one out but I would not be one bit shocked if ES wins

I will be curious to see if Starmount has improved upon their performance from last Friday. They will need to keep improving in the passing game to be ready for some tough conference games. They have the weapons, just got to figure out how and when to use them.

Hard to tell after just one game. You have first game jitters, a team that's had your number for a while, etc. It was Starmount's game to lose (based on all the talk this offseason) and I do think coming from behind to win like they did, does build some momentum going forward. I do think Starmount wins this one by two scores.

I also know that all the "fan speak" is behind Starmount going for the win at East. And it is ok with me if the Rams win.

But I truly believe people are under valuing how well East played a very good 6A Statesville loaded with "athletes". Take away 2 or 3 first game mistakes by East and clean up a couple of flags and East played Statesville even.

Guys, if Starmount does not prepare to play significantly better than they did against Mt Airy,....... The Cardinals could fly away with the win.

I agree with you here because if SM falls 2 scores down to ES that is going to be harder to overcome than it was against MA IMO.

100% agree. Starmount struggled last year with sustaining a drive. Last Friday looked to be the same. They will need to figure out how to score points without a 50+ yard pass.

This rams team has to learn to control the offense! From watching that game last Friday you could tell a different offense came out for the second half. If they start that way vs east give me rams by 14.

On the other hand East has to be able to throw it and throw it often. If they do then they will have a great chance of getting a win.

SM defense is going to be very interesting. D is the J.Pardue calling card. Obviously C.Pardue of ES knows that so it will for sure be a fun matchup of the Red Blue Pardue Bowl

I think Caleb knowing Josh's tendencies on defense makes for a very very interesting game. It's gonna be a duel for sure.

Surprised so far with this game. Starmount is beginning to look like the team we thought they were. ES is lucky it's not worse. Complete domination by Starmount on O and D.

So much for the “toss up”…..who knew it would be a near early beat down. Even the Ram contingent was a little taken back after last week’s slow start. The defense of last season showed signs of a reawakening. I’m curious to see how East Surry will do against Murphy next week?
