So I saw where Staggerin is opening a location at the new College View Development. Also Two Bros new building is looking great. Does anyone know of any other updates/new biz opening up in town?

Last time I dined at Commodore Bob's they indicated they would be opening a

larger restaurant in the same general area but gave no timeframe. He said they had the plans done.

Last time I ate there:
Food was nothing to write home about
Service was bad
Seating was not exactly clean

Maybe I was unfortunate to catch it on a bad night.

Most of the times we have been there it's been a good time with decent food but

we have had some average nights as well.

I believe they are going in The Vista (across from Bulldog Burger)

larger restaurant in the same general area but gave no timeframe. He said they had the plans done.

Not sure when thought, because that project is way behind and they are putting students in hotels to start the semester.

My wife and I ate there last month and everything was great, and we’ve never had a bad experience at Bob’s. That said, with their pricing, there’s really no excuse for them to have many “bad nights”.

That’s what I’m wondering too? It didn’t specify nor did SI’s social media.

The old City Bagel is rumored to become the site of the Mexican restaurant Ty Thames was going to open in the old service station on 182 awhile back but canceled. They've got newspaper covering the windows of the old bagel place now

Speaking of Starkville updates, would certainly be nice if Starkville could get an additional place to shop other than just the one Wal-Mart. Everytime I go over there and have to get something for my daughter the student, the only place to get it is across over the other side of town at the Wal-Mart and its always a mass zoo getting in and out of there.

A nice shopping complex out on Highway 82 by-pass would be welcome.

I have eaten with the Commodore one time and that was one too many. Terrible service, poorly prepared food and he blamed the bad food on the wait staff. He was a jerk and it was an all around awful experience.

I've only been once but for the prices we paid I don't expect to eat on paper platters w/ plastic silverware. Food wasn't bad but not worth the wait

Food is usually good.
Service is usually good.
Hospitality sucks sometimes.
Run out of key items often.

As a follow-up to my earlier somewhat negative statements (see above) we demoted it and now refer to it as "Captain" Bobs.

I've been in that store 1x and that's the nastiest, most unorganized business I've ever entered.

Surprised by the bad comments toward Bob’s. I’ve only eaten there once since it is usually too crowded and I’m not a fan of waiting in line too long, but the one time I went, the food was good, the service was just fine, the only complaint I had was a table of DRUNK college kids at 1:30 in the afternoon. I mean if that one guy made it out of bed the next day I don’t know how. Never heard such cursing out loud in a restaurant in my life. To his credit, the manager warned him twice then finally told them they had to go. Other than that, I was very pleased.

I made a big scene in there a few years ago and thought for sure the cops were going to be waiting on me as I stepped out. I saw something I wanted. Actually, parts of something I wanted in a pile. I dug through the pile until I saw a complete, undamaged item and grabbed it. It had an $11 sticker on it like all of the parts and broken pieces. When I go to check out, the cashier calls the manager out who looks at it and immediately says "Oh, this is wrong, its really $38." I went the 17 off on them for just making up a price well beyond the stated sale price on the item and had all of the blue-hairs blushing and making the cross symbol across their chest as I let everyone in the store know that the price tags that were on the items really didn't mean anything. The fact the cops weren't called after it went on so long and I was so loud tells me they knew they'd been busted at their little game. I don't think I've been back either.

With all respect you deserve, it seems as though you didn’t handle that in a sportsman, gentlemanly way.......is there something else really bothering you that we all need to know? We are all ears and here to help. Our rates are low and our advice is solid.

ANOTHER Mexican restaurant?

From my understanding..... it's not a "mexican restaurant" but if it is what I believe it is, will specialize in top grade tacos, fish tacos, etc.
Put it this way, I believe you wouldn't confuse this place with any other "mexican restaurant" in town.

I see where the Russell Street Flats are being sold as condos. They've put up 10 units for sale.

Is there any word on any more hotels being built in Starkville? Its a shame that is the limiting factor when getting people in town on game weekends.

The problem is that if you build hotels to satisfy the demand for seven weekends a year, you have a lot of hotels that are sitting empty for much of the rest of the year.

True, but I've always wondered how much of the typical hotel's annual carrying cost is covered by a full hotel, at inflated football weekend rates, 7 times a year.

This may have been true a few years ago, but with women's basketball becoming more popular and baseball season in the spring, I find it hard to believe the hotels would suffer.

Starkville's hotel occupancy average is barely over 60% for the last decade and has not increased. That is not indicative of a need for more hotels.
