Survived a few nights out at Mack’s and the rides back to Starkville. Would love to have a cd of all those dirty old songs he used to sing.....

Flo & Eddie's was the absolute **** and they made the most amazing fried cheese logs too. That place was iconic. Someone needs to bring it back.

Goat Lewis was the Lew and his wife was the Len.

Makes sense, I do know Melvin and Jan Rhodes owned in the early 70ies through the fire. Was leased at time of fire. I lived in one of the trailers out back for a couple years.

Th sign out front said " Len Lews too," your take on too?

Black haired bar-keep-Janell--if I remember right.. Pay off pin ball machines--great Juke box and $3.75 for a killer hamburger steak and fries-along with a Falstaff.. they also had curb service.

i go back to the days when it was the Red Fox--bumper pool at it's finest--Roberta-Roberta.. i was also there the night Mack got his eye shot out.

MSU 1967 to 1972:
Len-Lew's was the greatest! 35 cent canned beers.
The Crossroads was going downhill even then.
Echols was OK.
Across Hwy 45 there was a place that changed it's name to the Club after the owner's son was killed when he walked in on a burglary. That place and Len-Lew's was owned by the same Starkville guy-Goat Lewis.
In Columbus the Straight 8 Jr. and the Southernaire were the places.

Columbus.....Went to the Welding Works a few times in the early 70's. I believe it might still be around, but moved?

My story about Mack’s-the big live music room was just for storage and Mack was considering reviving his music career. My friend and I stayed up all night talking him into it and then he made the tapes and started using the big room for concerts. He showed us his trailer out back with a room lined in egg crate to record his music.

I was the mgr at Bully III from 1981-1983. I had to leave due to being NON conducive to to going to college. We had the Teddy R menu done by a local guy, and if the walls could talk.

Papa Leone’s pizza, pitchers of beer, big screen tv when MTV was new. Frat brother of mine owned the place. That place cost me the only class I ever failed in my life. Finite Math. Went to first class, thought it was easy, then never went to another class until the final. Instead I met up with a bud at Papa's where we drank beer and ate pizza until our other buddies showed up, and we drank more beer.

Another frat brother bought Bulldog Deli. Best damn sandwiches ever.

And of course, Len-Lews.

Sitting at the bar at the place "across Hwy 45" on a Friday night before a football in 72. One of our "star" players was sitting next to me. The S.O.B. got so drunk he fell off the barstool backwards and landed flat on his back. I mean nothing broke his fall. Needless to say the football team didn't take themselves very seriously back then...and neither did anyone else.

Early 70's for me too. I have fond memories of Len-Lew's, Crossroads, Southernaire & Echols. In Starkville, the best food was Pizza King on University next to Farm House frat. If I wanted to impress a date it was the Plantation Bell restaurant on 82. Not much to choose from back then.
