Mid to late 90s- Flo and eddies (now a condo on university dr); the landing on hwy 45; the cotton district grill where stagger is now. It technically still exists as cent station grill but is a shell of itself

Flo and Eddie's was the spot. You could go have a decent meal with a few drinks, party with your friends, or hook up with a decent chick. There may be better individual bars for 1 of the above items, but no place I have been has been as good at all three. It was one of those flames that burned so bright it had to burn out too soon...

How far back. The Club, Crossroads. Before beer sales passed pretty much everything was east across the county line. MSU student body president I believe was instrumental in getting beer passed. Campaigned on it and got all those students living in apartments in Starkville to register to vote.

98-00: Cheers, Rick's, Flo and Eddie's, Hunt Club was built 99? It was popular and already gone...we saw the angry, heavy metal version of Rip Van Winkle or whatever Vanilla Ice real name is there. It was hilarious.

92-98......We would start Friday afternoon out at The Grill. then move to choices for pool. Choices was in the building Ricks is now in.
Friday night was Cheers or maybe Mulligans.
Saturday night was more like the Landing or sometimes Classics in Columbus.
Sunday you had to drive to Johns grocery at the crossroads to buy beer if you didn't prepare properly Saturday.
Monday and Tuesday was for detoxing and some mild studying.
Wednesday night was comedy night at Cheers.
Thursday was The Club in Columbus unless Mulligans had a good band. Once Ricks opened up they had good bands there too.
Rinse and repeat with some Flo and Eddies mixed in for happy hours.

"Echols/Crossroads." Ditto. I was at State on the poverty plan. That's all I had.

Flo’s was the best bar. Great food and good specials. Tuesday nights were packed. Dave’s was fun. I never had fun at polliwogs. Cheers could be a good time and ricks if the band was good. Some good Charlie mars or law of nature. Maybe jack o’pierce
But flo’s was the ****

The Bully III back when Dave and the late Del Rendon were actually waiters at what is now Dave’s Dark Horse. Played many a game of Quarters (and Pitchers) on those sticky tables way in the back. Always loved it when they’d have live music like Jeff & Jeff or Mike & Anne, or Mike & Jeff, or Bill & Jeff or any combination of those incredible musicians that were in Starkville around 1990. Add in JWS arriving in ‘91 and that was a great time to be in Starkville.

ahh. Bully III Pub, many an hour wasted there. Can’t mention The Cub on Saturday night and not mention The Southernair on Sunday afternoon.

What was the name of the place that made a decent pizza over near old 45 and West Point Rd? Small place.

They also had a little tiki bar behind Lil' Dooeys for a while. I remember having a drink with Pickle there once.

They might have been after 2000.

Late 80's early 90's The Club in Columbus was hot every weekend.

I didn't do too much clubbing after 1994 because being full time in school and work left me little time.

Here is one that I don't think anybody mentioned. J.C. Garcias! It was a Mexican Restaurant where Casa Bravo is now. The food was TERRIBLE but, they built an indoor patio and used to have live music 6 nights a week. Bill Cooke, Jeff and Jeff, B & V Acoustics,....etc. There would literally be 3 couples eating in the restaurant part and around 70 to 80 people packed into the patio every night. This was around 93 - 94. The food was so bad that even one of the managers told me that if he wanted Mexican food, he'd go to Taco Bell.

A bit of a thread hijack, but did y’all ever go over to Columbus and eat at a place called “Fleet’s Eats”? It was basically just a makeshift restaurant inside of these people’s house. Pay the fee, go sit down and take your pick out of a couple dozen crock pots.

Yeah I knew the owner pretty well and he has since passed. He always did a write in campaign for governor but I can't remember his platform but part of it was something like "I am for legalization of pot and cat whiskey. Basically I want to loosen everything that is tight, and tighten up everything that is loose".

Nobody mentioned Papa Leone's. I guess it was too pre-2000, was a pizza place with good beer in the location that was later Cheers.

Edit: It was actually on the web

"I will start back all factories and companies that have closed. I will do away with taxes. I will back pay all employees time and a half. I will legalize cat whiskey and marijuana. In general, I will tighten up on everything loose, and loosen up on everything tight"

MSU 1967 to 1972:
Len-Lew's was the greatest! 35 cent canned beers.
The Crossroads was going downhill even then.
Echols was OK.
Across Hwy 45 there was a place that changed it's name to the Club after the owner's son was killed when he walked in on a burglary. That place and Len-Lew's was owned by the same Starkville guy-Goat Lewis.
In Columbus the Straight 8 Jr. and the Southernaire were the places.

Len Lews was owned by Melvin Rhodes, he did lease it a couple times in late 70ies.

Apparently it wasn’t burning bright enough from a profit standpoint for the owner, or else it would have rebuilt. Or, maybe, it never would have burned down in the first place....

I used to play at Bully III back then. My girlfriend (now wife) played around town at most of the places you've mentioned (what was the Mexican place?). Bully paid a hundred bucks or so and a $50 bar tab. She'd do the first set solo (LOTS of Indigo Girls tunes) while my roommate and I drank up the bar tab, then we'd sit in for the rest of the night on harmonica and guitar. I think we had brown eyed girl requested about every five minutes. Del would come sit in with us as well, he was a talented guy, and just a nice person. My favorite performer there was this crazy redneck blues player named Mike Swain. Dude looked like he sharpened his knife every day.

And the Cotton district had that special, red beans and rice and a draft for like 5 bucks I think.
