Curious why it is bad? AP classes are bad then?...or am i misunderstanding what you posted?

I could see if all the smart kids are in classes together, then all the dummies are together and that could be bad in a way...so is that what you mean?

Yes, we have schools that still want the privileged few to all be in the class together for all subjects (tracking). They think it's a good idea to group the "smart" kids together so they can do well.

But:

When you put all the "dumb" kids in one class together you label them dumb. That does not create an environment for optimum learning. It creates an environment that makes them.. well "Dumb". Imagine being tracked since 1st grade and you never had to perform to the same standards as the "smart" kids. Throw in a difficult home life.. then you can easily see how they get to the point where they don't succeed.

If you mingle all the students together and do away with labels. You end up with a much greater % of the population that do well.

Advanced classes? Sure, you can have them and need them. Those subjects aren't for everyone, but removing stereotypes when structuring classes you find that many more kids do well.

This is basic stuff and nothing earth shattering, but we still have schools and principals doing this every year. Why? Is it prejudice? or just uniformed? I prefer to think its uninformed.

My calcs show it moving the needle from 32% white to 44% white.

And I never said they SHOULD do that. I just said it would help SPS become a good public school. But, that might not even matter. I know the reality of the situation.

Your calcs are off. 50% of SA students (give or take) don't even live in Oktibbeha County and only go there to avoid being sent to East Webster, Maben, Ackerman, etc.

Secondly, racist much? I graduated from SHS when the ratio was still very much like it is now, and there were plenty of black students there that were more than intelligent. And I think the fact that there are 33 kids scoring over 30 on the ACT in a school that is 65% black further backs that up.

When you consolidate a district you have to make room. Not a hard thing to decide but if you want to pretend they were being altruistic go right ahead. That school had to be built and Msu stepping up is what made it a reality.

Those 'experts' are the reason Mississippi is still a bottom feeder in the educational world. Or did you forget they are the same morons that still believe the voucher system would accomplish anything other than more torn down buildings and modernized segregation?

They haven't made that type of investment into the other districts they have consolidated. And they didn't call for schools to be closed, the community came together and went to Jackson and presented a plan. And the state leaders chose to invest in that plan because the community showed pride and willingness to work. State leaders, the community and MSU all made it a reality. A true partnership school like the name indicates and it will be a game changer.

Vouchers? I have missed that in Mississippi. But I do think options in situations that are not good and highly unlikely to improve (I.e Jackson Public) are good and worth exploring.

Bad point. You can't do math. 65% of 766 is about 498, which leaves 268 white students. You have 33 kids with high scores. The ratio of black students means nothing here, those 33 could be anywhere. Liberal facts, legit LOL. In an ideal world, yes, they'd be projected evenly, but we don't live in an ideal world.

We need the stats on those 33 students or we have ZERO INFORMATION in which to gauge that. Another legit LOL at your assertion of those percentages.

But when in doubt, call someone a racist. Unfortunately it doesn't increase your credibility with smart people.

Go home Goat...you're drunk. You literally said that the sole reason of improvement to SHS from closing SA would be from increasing the percentage of white students at SHS. Please explain to me how stating that increasing the percentage of white people = better school is not an inherently racist statement?

Aside from all that, your lack of knowledge on the first point pretty much illustrates your lack of knowledge on the demographics of Starkville and the GTR area as a whole, so it wouldn't be worth mentioning anything further because you'll just spew some other BS about libtard / SJW / etc. But for posterity's sake, you should know that Starkville High has many well educated kids of all races and nationalities with parents that make it a priority because those parents are educators and administrators at MSU. The parents themselves are a little bit more educated than in the average MS town and those types of parents instill those values in their kids. There are still problems and bad apples, no question. But that is the case at any MS school...public or private.
