i saw it against Wisconsin and it happened today. Of course the two turnovers hurt and a couple bad calls, but milking the clock allowed Tennessee to set up their defense. It’s Cal’s biggest weakness.
They had an 18-6 run to close out the game.

Anyone who thinks we lost this game because Cal played stall ball is a moron.

You have to be kidding.

It's called half court offense guys. What are we supposed to do, rush our shots just for the sake of keeping the pace up?

We had an 8 point lead and turned the ball over several times because we were careless.

We didn't get rebounds when we should have. We gave up wide open looks.

When you have an 8 point lead with 2 minutes to go, you don't decide to rush and give the other team more possessions. That is just dumb.

We had them on the ropes with 5 min left, they were gassed, done.
Barnes went zone to rest them and we sat back and allowed them to for about 4 possessions

So how is that stall ball?

We were working to get a good shot. Was Cal just supposed to have our guys take quick threes or something?

How about attacking a team on its heels??? Having a play u can call out when a team goes zone on you? Flashing a good shooter to the elbow? Throwing over the top of zone for a lob? A backdoor cut???
We had 3 guys standing around the perimeter against a zone and still couldn’t get a shot off???

We scored on 14 out of our last 20 possessions, with 4 of those ending in turnovers that Cal can’t control. I think you’re reaching trying to blame Cal

So, his teams can't score or hold onto the ball at the end of close games.
Yeah, that's never a coaches fault who built the team and has inexperienced players.
Must be he just hopes for luck...

Can’t score? We missed 3 shots in the last 20 possessions of the game. So you’re really going to blame the Herro walk and the bs charge on Keldon on Cal? Feels like you’re trying to find a way to blame him.

I learned in grade school how to attack a zone, flash a shooter to the elbow and get him the ball if one of the forwards comes up to help you run his man backdoor for a layup if he don’t your shooter at the elbow has a 12 foot jumper or the option to blow by the center and attack the rim, again if help comes he can than kick it out for a 3,
This team did no movement below the arc so Tennessee was essentially getting a timeout to stand around and rest while we fumbled the ball around the arc

Cal has to stop this sitting guys an entire half unconditionally with 2 fouls. If it were 6 min to go the first half I get it. How many minutes did PJ sit the first half. Same garbage in Knoxville. Today wasnt as egregious as we went into the half down what....2? In Knoxville the game was out of hand and he stuck to it anyway. Youve got to use some common sense Cal and consider the damn situation. Its not something that should be a blanket policy.

What if PJ gets a cheap third foul?

As one other thread points out, UT scored 18 points in the final 2:58.

$8 million per year to figure out how to play a zone, but I’m not allowed to say anything since “I can’t do better”. I will take “Things that Cal doesn’t do” for 500, Alex. Cal got owned tonight.

And you personally pay Cal his salary.

8 mill a year got nothing to do with you. You don’t pay it, you don’t earn it. You just complain. That’s all.

I will disagree with you. The whole second half we were running one play after another. Tennessee switched to a zone so it took more time to attack it. Turnovers and Refs cost us this one.
I agree with this. We have to start valuing every possession. We also missed a crucial 1 foot shot and didn't finish several others

Sometimes the other team plays defense, sometimes that other team is a top 5 caliber team and they are really good.

Forcing up quick shots gets you beat.

This team uncharacteristically crapped tge bed, but it had nothing to do with stall ball.

Find a different excuse.

Sorry Jeff but unfortunately unless Cal changes his late game tactics he is going to be known more for choking big games away than winning them.
Going to be sad that when this man rolls out of Lexington after 15 years of being here and all the talent he may only have one title.

How many coaches have won more regular season and tournament games since 2010 than Calipari?

Sure, Jay Wright, K and Roy have more titles, but they had more early exits than Cal by a long shot.

Not saying Cal has not done well, but no one remembers who gets second place especially when you have the most pro guys by a long shot than any other coach and only one title

Cal doesn’t know how to teach zone offense (especially against 1-3-1). Calnever calls a time out in end game situations regardless how young his team is, he refuses to watch tape and game plan other teams and he refuses to strategically play a zone to mix things up.

I don’t like UT or Barnes but he went to that 1-3-1 for several possessions and completely turned the big MO in the other direction. It was a great coaching move. Cal is great bit he could be so much better

It wasnt stall ball. Tennessee switched to a zone and it took us out of rhythm. Well, that and the officiating.

People want to call it stall ball but its winning ball. If you have an 8 point lead with under 3:00, its only logical to want to milk some clock and minimize possessions. The less possessions the opponent has, the less likely they are to win the game. But even that didnt happen today. I never felt like we were stalling at all. They switch to a zone and when you play against a zone, you have to be smart and patient.
