Brother @ralphdaltonfan, what do you think of Danny Manning as a potential add to the staff? I believe I've heard he and Cal are fairly tight, and he's had good offensive teams as a coach, plus having someone with (recent) head coaching experience on the staff is never a bad thing, and his being a big man with a legit NBA career, could he be a help in player development? Seems like he could check a lot of boxes of what we'd need in an assistant coach, but I defer to your knowledge in this department if you have any insight?

Manning just recently said he wanted to be the new AD at Kansas. I'd rather go in another direction. I loved the addition of Lucas because he's a great recruiter and had 0 ties with Calipari.

Flint's addition was about comfort, not advancing the program.

Anderson is my favorite UK player of all time. With that being said, I absolutely don’t want him as an assistant. Dude has been out of the game for a while and isn’t a coach. Just because you were a great player 20 years ago doesn’t make you qualified to be on staff.

Keep Justus and Lucas. Trash the rest. Go all in on coach O.

Justus is actually a really good assistant. I have no idea why he gets so much hate. The debate against Barbee is fair. I remember Cal mentioning a big reason for bringing in Barbee was due to his knowledge of zone defense. We see how that has worked out.

Lucas and Justice played about 20 years ago too, they had to start sometime. Anderson knows the game and was a former player here something many think Cal needs.

Lucas played 10 years ago.... not 20. Justus had been a part of the coaching staff for 5 years before becoming assistant. If you think hiring someone with 0 experience at all will help I don't know what to tell you. We need to get people who have proven their merit to be added to the staff

It doesn't matter if it's 10 or 20 years, they all had zero experience at one time. Is that you Barbee?

Listening to KSR podcast from todays show. Their opinion is Cal will not fire Barbee or Flint. They're his guys, like his kids. Lucas just got there and has recruits coming in. Justice could be up for coaching jobs, but don't see Cal pushing him out due to his loyalty to a fault sometimes.

They didn't jump straight to assistant coach at UK. I don't know what's so hard to comprehend about we need to hire proven coaches if we want to get better. It's simple really

There's rumors of coach O coming back, which I would love personally. We need to make that happen

Lucas jumped straight in to an assistant at Texas, what's your point, maybe you should be on the hiring committee with all of your pin point facts and figures.

Barbee is very knowledgeable about zone defenses. If we had played that against Mississippi State we would have won going away. Mississippi State, other than one guard, is not a great outside shooting team and we could not defend the paint. So if we almost never utilize an obvious defense for games like we just played there is zero reason to have Barbee sitting on the bench.

Cal is going to do the same thing over & over
It's his way or no way
His arrogance is off the charts

Unfortunately, Anderson's comments do seem spot on. Who here doesn't agree that recruiting philosophy needs to at the least be tweaked if not entirely changed as he describes. Plus, it is hard to argue his point about out style of play against U. Conn or even yesterday. It adds some insult to see today just how bad a team Mississippi State truly is.

This is an honest question. What does Derek Anderson bring to the table as an assistant coach? I think it would be great to bring him (or someone like him) in as the Director of Basketball Operations and let him work his way up, just like Strickland did. Just don’t think you bring a guy in with zero experience as an assistant at UK
Like I said a week ago in another thread. Love Anderson but we don't know if he would be a good coach or not. Zero experience. Doubt Cal would ever bring in anyone for the Pitino era anyway so probably a mute point.

I think they all stay.

That said I think we need a coaching staff shake up or adjustment.
This year was no GOLD STANDARD.
But Fixable indeed.
I think returning player will have an off season drive like no other

I agree with getting rid of Barbee. Dude is garbage. I'm going to give Flint the benefit of the doubt because not sure if this is the norm or not for him. Bring back Orlando and another high profile guy that can get the best of the best and convince them to go to college, and not the Pro route.

I love how people have such strong opinions of coaches they see on TV wearing a suit on the sidelines.
