I hear different teams wanting to build stadiums, but people sometimes seem to suggest there's a problem building a new stadium on campus
is the problem that these colleges are in the ghetto? I could see that a problem for public safety going to a game if so.....

some folks I remember saying the orange bowl was in a bad neighborhood.
but sometimes people may think a area thats not great is the ghetto when it isn't...

I look at ghetto areas as , do not go there after dark.....so what's the deal on them 3 teams and a hold up on a new stadium?

The old Orange Bowl was in a rough neighborhood…I’m not a sociology professor. I grew up on the mean streets of Millard, NE for a point of reference.

no, I never been to these campuses...just going by comments I seen....I mean sometimes opposing fans maybe enough trouble going to game, let alone to get caught up in some urban ghetto bs.

if your wanting to build a new stadium I would think they would want to build it in a place where folks won't get robbed/carjacked/etc..finding their parking...

I keep hearing miami is no good because they don't have a stadium on campus...then I heard the orangebowl was in a dump...so I'm asking is miamis campus in a ghetto..

the same question came up with memphis and usc

Is not the entire city of Memphis a ghetto?
don't know, I hear some problems from there, but then I hear it's like a music capital and alot of people go there..
I asked about them cause their team/stadium came up in big 12 expansion round 2 talk

maybe I'm getting it confused with nashville, as far as music but I know al greens from there

East Memphis is ghetto. Memphis has its no go areas, but have felt safe in much of Memphis. There are some beautiful, historic areas. Some hole in the wall bbq joints in older areas of town are excellent.

Outside USC is the straight up hood. The Old Orange bowl was in a rough part of town, RIP. Half of Memphis is sketchy, never been to the campus.

Ive been to a shìtload of stadiums. USC was by far the most disappointing. (Callahans game plan didn't help) UCLA was super lame too. Wake Forest was better than both.

No, the campus is in Coral Gables and the stadium was closer to downtown Miami.
oh, thanks...I wonder if they would have room to place it right on campus....
I just bring it up cause some folks have been saying that's part of miami's woes...
not that I care too much, I was never a big fan of playing in their backyard on new year's night, for a NC.
but maybe if miami got a lil better, the miami recruits might stop fueling bama a bit, and they wouldn't win the NC every other year.

I'd add Minnesota to the list.

I mean the Fabulous Forum where the Lakers played their home games for many years until Staples Center was built, is located in Inglewood. The cops nickname Inglewood, "Ingle Watts" ..
Rough area...

Miami is not in a ghetto section now, the old Orange Bowl, yes.

Campus is in a good area, other than adjacent to US1 which is a crap-hole itself, but campus is good.

The old Chicago Stadium was rough. When they built the United Center they cleaned out skid row and some shady buildings, but if you go 6 blocks west, take cover! There, you are in the heart of East Garfield Park, ground zero for gang wars, where the blood flows 24 hours everyday.

I wouldn’t call it a great part of town, but it’s not that bad as long as you don’t venture west past the CTA blue line. I’ve gone to the area a few times for food, so it’s not like I’m staying away at all costs aside from Bulls/Hawks games.

I was wondering about that, that new stadium the gophers built, is that by a ghetto?
I been watching a lot of horror stories coming out of minneapolis ....
it's probably not as bad as chicago, where beetlejuice is giving carjackers a court date 2 years down the road and letting them go free.

the reason I ask this question is, just to get a feel for whats going on with new stadiums and decisions...
like you could say omaha built the college world series stadium by a ghetto, but really it's not a bad location at all.
and I haven't really heard much nonsense taking place there. really the main crime there was the city council members buying up he land around it before they informed the public a stadium was going to be built there...

so I guess it's just a matter of miami having the will to build a stadium on campus, and prying open the wallet, they have a nice area to work with.
