St. Peter’s Game Thread

[MichiganStoleTitle]

Starting this thread early. The day we wait for all year—opening tip-off. Let’s go!!!!

[PirateBlue08]

Think the starting lineup will be the same as against Monmouth?

- Jones
- Anderson
- Wilcher
- Fisher
- Copeland

[Fishjam]

Yes, when in doubt, Sha always starts the best defensive lineup. Only defensive lineup that could be better would be Parker for Jones but don't know Parker's status. May still be in Sha's doghouse.

[PhishingPirate088]

Shas doghouse should be the name of our team

[PirateBlue08]

That is one small lineup. Got to be the smallest of all major conference teams

[hallmatt]

It is small but Payne was only 6’8, so very similar to last year

Hmm, not sure how true that is. He seemed at least 6'9.

I am under the impression Copeland is actually around 6'7. Stan Gaines size. Can anyone knowledgable confirm?

At the Monmouth game he looked at least several inches shorter than Williams, who is probably a legit 6'10.

[PirateBlue08]

Xavier beginning their game with a 29-3 lead. Thats how you start a season against a patsy school.

[Fishjam]

Things I want to see tonight

- Press St Peter's from the jump
- Push the pace every chance we can
- Cut out the careless TOs
- Feed the post with good, fundamental entry passes
- Attack the basket and get to the line
- Quick ball movement and an active offense - no standing around or dribbling east-west 35-40 feet from basket

That’s how a number of the BE games have gone tonight it seems.

But there is also the first night jitters aspect too.

What a clunker of a play by play guy. He's got nothing to say! (Clearly he knows as much about our players as I do at this stage)

[The_Hall]

the FS1 days were peak

[HallGuy2323]

Nobody wants to shoot…. As expected, we have no lead guy. Seems to be a theme with Sha. Everybody is afraid of getting pulled over taking a “bad shot”

that's what this part of the season is for

Jonathan Yardley is a legend out of Delbarton!

Just remember what everyone was saying about Bud Clark pre-Hawaii last year. It wasn’t good.

[Fishjam]

We look much better than at Monmouth but Del Jones is the one guy who actually looks worse. Getting beat on both sides of the ball, Given up 3 3-pointers in his face and turned it over at least 3 times.

[Fishjam]

The offense flows the best with Petro at point. I wish Sha would let him run with the 1st team guys sometimes.

Where is Rodney Brown?

[Fishjam]

Copeland keeps holding his hand. Thats the hand he broke his fingers on.

[hallmatt]

Halftime thoughts
1. Does Del Jones suck? Respectfully
2. Where was Rodney Brown
3. Thank God for Elijah Fisher
4. Copeland, Williams, Peteovic, provided strong mins
5. Idk if our defense is great or St Peters is just bad

[The_Hall]

this is better than i expected

[The_Hall]

although i can't tell if any of these guys could hack it at the big east level

[PirateBlue08]

Apparent hand injury to Copeland could crush the season.

No Kabba + no Copeland would be a dagger against real competition.

[Piratz]

Copeland keeps holding his hand. Thats the hand he broke his fingers on.

It was an awkward pull by the St. Peter’s player as they were caught up in the baseline.

[Piratz]

St. Peter’s isn’t good, but that was a complete half. Good to see.

Playing 12 players in a half is insane, but that’s Sha. Man does he tinker, whew.

[Fishjam]

Sha is seeeeeething about this shot clock delay. lol

[Seton75]

57% from 3
50 from the field
77 from the line
Hmmm

Pretty decent half.

[catholicman]

Our Serbian point guard looks like our best pg. Why so little playing time? He was ok on defense.

[PirateBlue08]

Copeland with taped up fingers but shooting around a bit during weird shot clock debacle stoppage.

[PirateBlue08]

Awesome play stoppage where we get to hear about announcers malignant mole. Heard its 98 lb

[Piratz]

I can see why they were so high on Copeland. He’s skilled and strong.

[catholicman]

This shot clock problem is turning into a debacle. Is this the Prudential Center's fault or ours?

[HallGuy2323]

I have the volume off. I was wondering why halftime was taking forever

[PirateBlue08]

while we're waiting, I had an exquisite short ribs dinner. Cooked low in dutch oven for 5 hours. Falling off the bone

He's had injuries so he may be limited. I agree, Jones shouldn't get 13 minutes and Petrovic 5. I know its been said Petro has some issues with Sha's D but Jones is not a good defender either.

I'll say. Certainly better than neck-and-neck with Monmouth in a scrimmage.

[PirateBlue08]

In 5 minutes of play, Petro went 1-1 with several assists and a rebound, with no turnovers. Efficient. Jones was a total debacle

[PirateBlue08]

yippee Copeland back in the game

[PirateBlue08]

Big news: We can actually hit some threes this year

I'm not impressed with Jones' game. I hope he improves. But the Serbian is so much better.
