Why? It’s one game. Nebraska was already getting “credit” for Duke’s record regardless of outcome, in the OOWP column. St Johns winning pct didn’t jump much with one win. From an aesthetics point, it probably helps all the bubble teams in the Big East more because they have all actually beat St John’s. IMHO

What people don’t really understand about RPI is that the opponents RPI only matters when discussing quality wins or losses. Nebraska can beat a team that has a 25-4 record but an RPI of 150 and Nebraska’s RPI will improve, at the same time Nebraska can beat a team with an RPI of 60 and a record of 11-14 and Nebraska’s RPI would fal because 50ish pct of the calculation is Opponent winning pct. The calculation doesn’t care what your opponent’s RPI is. It is calculated off record only. The bonus points for home/road wins or home/road losses or top 25 win etc are calculated in after the fact.

I understand exactly how it works. I just don’t believe that math supports your opinion that Nebraska’s RPI will improve,TO THE LEVEL YOU BELIEVE, based on this one St John’s win.

Saying that every point counts is entirely different than saying St. John's beating Duke is "going to help... A LOT."

I suppose anything positive helps, if only in very small increments. If St. John's can get a few Big East wins and stop being the conference laughing stock - that could also help Nebraska's chances in the eyes of some Selection Committee members. But it's not going to be some kind of huge bump.

Nebraska's RPI will improve because the win is in the 50% portion of the calculation (opponents' record [St. John's]) rather than the 25% portion (opponents' opponent's record [Duke]).
