I bet we can think of lots of records this broke. Most points by a losing team comes to mind quickly. Highest scoring playoff game. Highest scoring game between two Virginia schools.

This just says how the vhsl rankings are flawed, a number 1 seed giving up 80 points really, WA hasn't played anyone but brookville and get spanked but get the number 1 seed, give me a break

This game was a circus but it was a lot of fun to watch. Western's defense looked soft from the get-go. Just curious, but are there any teams left from Western's conference in the playoffs? I moved up to the Charlottesville area after college, and I have seen a lot of high school football in the area. It seems to me the overall type of play up here is VERY different than back home. People have these teams rated so high throughout the year, and then get into playoffs against Roanoke area teams, etc and they look pretty bad. What's up with that?

No surprise. I mean, don't get me wrong, they had "size," and were quite a bit bigger than SR on the line. However, SR fired off the ball on offense and were pushing around the big defensive front for WA. It seemed a matter of toughness and overall strength as opposed to how big/tall they were.

Western also didn't have 2 starters playing on the defensive line because of injury. One was listed at 6'5 240. No one has failed to mention anywhere SR's pass defense. The Hearn kid picked them apart but they had as much trouble tackling in the secondary as WA did on the dline.

Glad you mentioned that Oldtimer. I believe the score was 85-79. Sounds like to me BOTH defenses struggled mightily and that Western's alone shouldnt be crucified. If I were Staunton River, I wouldn't feel too confident going forward. I know one common topic to bandy about on here is "trashing the JD" but you can't 'cherry pick" the bad from one squad and ignore the other because it doesnt make your argument.

Sorry to ruffle the feathers there, but that was just my observation on that night. I was just surprised to see WA get pushed around up front all night long like they were. Yes, it's safe to say neither team's defense got off the bus that night, but I honestly was expecting quite a bit more from WA and walked away shocked and a little perplexed. As for SR's secondary, yes they gave up a TON of passing yards and scores, but they also intercepted WA in two key possessions (just before 1st half and in the endzone to end the game).

Thanks for pointing out the 2 missing starters on D, as that was something I was not aware of until reading that in the Daily Progress article online Monday. SR's unexpected deep playoff run will meet it's end this Friday in my opinion, and I hope to see an actual football score this time instead of a college basketball score.

IMO, Magna Vista will win by at least 2 TD's. The difference will be the MV defense. It's evident that SR has had trouble stopping people so I don't see them stopping MV offense. But, MV defense will probably stop SR enough to win by a comfortable margin
