Just someone who understands the reality of the situation.
Actually you don’t. We retained who we wanted in football, had a solid recruiting class and portal. We have expanded our budget in football and basketball. We no longer have the smallest budget in the SEC and our NIL has taken major strides. So again you don’t understand the reality of our situation.

Great. I look forward to a 9-3 season. 🙄

Shapen was horrible. Now it has been proven beyond a reasonable doubt that not even an arena football team wanted him. He single handedly cost us 3 games and tried to give away the Arizona state game. He had a bad attitude, and destroyed team morale. Lebby stuck with him for waaaay too long knowing it would be the last games of his life as a football player. Baylor said getting rid of him was the greatest move they ever made.
we aren’t running some kinda of charity that sends you off into the sunset. We need to have balls.
you do realize that is was Shapen's arm that should have won the Tx game and the Tenn game but the HC didn't know how to end a game. 30/70 HC fault again on the Fla game. A lot of good Qb's don't get to go to the NFL, doesn't mean you weren't a good college Qb.

We are in the business to produce next level quarterbacks. Before Shapen, we had a guy that signed a contract to become the largest paid quarterback in nfl history’s I guess it’s kinda hard to be the next guy, but when people from the future type in Blake Shapen highlights, they will see one good game in the big 12 championship. And the rest are just brutal hits he took at every school he played at. Nothing you can say now will change the fact that’s what people will see on him. One game , I think Baylor played @ West Virginia, he gave him self up and still got absolutely rocked. Oooof I do not think he was that smart of a guy either.

We in the wrong bidness then. In 100 years of football we've had 1 qb to make a name for themself in the NFL as a QB. But we've had some good Qb's that have won some great games for us. Just curious do you happen to be between 11-14 years old. You really say some stupid Sheet that may be hormonal driven.

Enjoy being disappointed every year. We’re not Indiana with Mark Cuban’s money.
Indiana did not win because of Mark Cuban outspending everyone the past 2 years. They are the first team in history to break the blue chip index. They are the example that shows why teams like us can win. Going forward, Cuban will finance them to a point that will be with the blue bloods but their previous NIl budgets have not been any higher than what we would spend. You don’t know that though because you just say sh*t without doing any research at all.

I ask this as someone that just has not had time to keep up with the portal class. Life sometimes sucks, even for the Devil. So, I ask this out of sheer lack of knowledge and curiosity. I hear some on here saying we struck out in the portal, some say we were solid. Which is it, or is the truth somewhere in the middle like usual?

Too early to tell for sure but somewhere in the middle most likely. We didn't get the big name left tackle that everyone was hoping for but initial reports from camp are the O line looks better than it did this time last year (not saying much). We did do a much better job this off-season of current player retention

For what it’s worth, it’s ranked #35. About 15-20’spots below last years portal transfers.

Y'all were saying the same for 4 games last year and we won 5 and y'all wanted Lebby fired. We got to a bowl last year too.
I like Lebby. I don't want to fire him. He isn't on the same playing field with NIL, so I don't expect him to win 10 games. I just wish we could drop to the Sunbelt or MAC so we could dominate with 2 and 3 star in state players and a running QB.

If we go 0-12 from now to eternity, we should absolutely never voluntarily leave the SEC. The entire University would suffer. This is just insane.

This is literally the dumbest Mississippi State sports related post in the history of this board. And that is saying something.

I’m sure the story is that we kept the guys that we wanted to keep, but I’m counting 39 players that transferred out. The average in the SEC appears to be around 23 with only 2-3 schools anywhere near our number.

Dead weight or not, losing 50% of your roster in one offseason doesn’t seem ideal, and it also doesn’t speak highly of the staff’s evaluation and development efforts

Ha Ha! I knew I'd get somebody riled up. Relax man, it's just a thought experiment I have sometimes when I realize our worst teams would be awesome in a different conference. I don't ever expect it to be even a glimmer of a real possibility.

It is so amazing to me that people still think Lebby is the guy. I do not know the man personally, and I do not have any grudge against him. That being said, my belief is this is not the guy. And I know all the Lebby fans will say who could we get that would be better? The name I put out, in another thread, was Charles Huff, but most coaches could get us the results we have seen from Lebby for the past few years. The thing that scares me with Lebby is that one day he might be a great coach, but we just do not have the time to let that happen at State. I really do think coaches should get 5 years or more to really turn around a program in the old school way. Unfortunately, this is just not the world we live in.

We won't. It's much more likely that the SEC and BIG would combine to form a super conference and shed some dead weight.
Maybe, but if you're a mid-tier SEC school like say Tenn or Auburn or Florida, do *you* want to be the new Vandy of the league. Someone is going to take the Ls, might as well be someone else. What's more likely is the SEC brings us and Arky and OM along with them but they cut our revenue based on some formula.

Agree. 2nd class citizens already, but it will be codified.

You mean the pick six and fumble that resulted in a scoop and score against Tennessee? Fluff carried the offen that night ....
