And Rutgers could have had separate graduations over multiple days like other schools are doing to lessen the number of attendees. But Holloway was short sited and prematurely cancelled everything despite knowing people were getting vaccinated at a rapid rate and outdoor transmission of Covid is so low it's almost immeasurable

What part of that don't you understand?
And other large schools have figured out how to have live graduation. Penn State will break it up into smaller schools. IU ceremony attendance is graduates only and are making each graduate either prove vaccination or have 2 negatives tests. For many students, live graduation is important. Somehow Rutgers couldn't figure out what other schools are doing. Most have been the stress of complex planning.

There's no comparison between 5,000 fans socially distanced in a 52,000 seat stadium vs thousands of students, family and friends all mingling together at a graduation ceremony.

What part of that don't people understand?

I'm not saying there shouldn't be a graduation ceremony. But suggesting the two events are equivalent is absurd.
That and people forget that the spring game was rescheduled due to the team suspending operations due to Covid around the time graduation was set as virtual. Rutgers graduated 18,825 in 2019 university wide.

Kind of agree. There is no comparison to a football game and a graduation. Football game- people buy tickets and want to be there. Graduation? Maybe 50% of the people want to be there. Mine for the SOE (then COE) was barely memorable except it being very hot and remembering that I could not wait for it to be over. That said, to some grads and families it is an important ceremony and they should not be denied.

While it seems none of news outlets have probed the real reasons for no graduation, it is likely faculty and staff probably pushed back hard and would not cooperate with gong to a graduation ceremony. Similar to the nonsense we see with some of the teachers' unions fighting going back to in person learning in schools and their agenda driving the "science" behind the decision to keep kids learning from home. Why are some schools in the tri-state area fully open while others are still closed? Science!!
perhaps, but very few faculty or staff attend the graduation ceremony. There would be very little for them to do there.

There are actually a decent number: admins to have the diplomas ready to hand out, some professors, custodial staff, police, security, parking attendants, etc.

And every school that is having graduation is doing is over multiple days with much smaller groups. A little foresight & planning (read:effort) and RU could have made it happen

There is a no bag policy for the spring game? What about the standard stadium bag that is widely accepted in all NFL and college stadiums?

Why the no bag policy for the spring game?

Can somebody please explain to me the science that's causing RU to prohibit tailgating in a wide open field outdoors?

I would like to "follow the science" on this.

Most students are not yet inoculated, therefore, there is a mask policy on campus, including outdoors where social distancing isn’t possible. That’s the science

Tailgaters are going to be gathering in groups and not wearing masks as they eat and drink.

RU doesn’t need the hassle of going around checking IDs to see who is likely or not likely to have been vaccinated.

People have to come to grips with the fact that this is an on-campus event. RU has some blanket policies and it’s not worth the headaches of crafting unique policies for every event.

Isn’t the semester over as of last week?

And with everything being remote who is still on campus?

Common sense and facts have no place in the world of a covidiot.
Remember when MSM excoriated certain politicians when they contravened CDC guidance? Now certain politicians and MSM talking heads are contravening CDC guidance.

They can't undo their version of science just yet.

forget the tailgating part.

Can somebody explain why people sitting outside, with the people they came with and socially distanced from everyone else have to wear a mask while in their seats.

excellent question. I just sent Matt C an email questioning this and I texted my ticket rep as well. If you had not pointed this out I would attend under the assumption that the regular season policy of clear bags was in play.....and I'd be pissed as chit to be turned away at the gate for it. I don't have pockets for keys/wallet/phone

Most of the people who attend the Spring game are season ticket holders and are not students. The rate of transmission for outdoor events is 1% or less. Given that most people in the age group of the season ticket holders are of those who are vaccinated, my view is that the University's has more to do with the law then with science.

As far as I am concerned, if there are any left as of 10 AM Wednesday morning, contact every high school coach in the state and season ticket holder and tell them first claimed, first served.

@Knightmoves my ticket rep just texted me back an answer.

"The bag policy listed online (no bags) is accurate for the Spring Game. What I've been told is that it is more of a preventative measure to avoid more face to face contact that our fans would have with security personnel who would usually be checking bags at the game. I apologize for any inconvenience and we appreciate your support and understanding"

Oh, Rutgers.....I thought the masks were solving all of the problems...........

What a ridiculous answer. Maybe everybody should be required to wear Plastic Bubbles at all times. Would solve capacity, masks, bags and tailgating crimes against humanity.

OMG. RU is protecting the health of the RU Security Personnel at the game with the no bag policy? So bogus!

How do we carry our 3 gourmet hoagies and six pack of water that we always bring into the stadium under these made up rules without our stadium bag?

Rutgers is obviously afraid that they can't control the exact composition of any air that could possibly be trapped in the plastic bags. It could have come from a household that has a member not yet vaccinated who could have farted in the vicinity prior to loading said bag with items.

That seals it... even after jumping through hoops to get tickets we are skipping this one.
Hollowhead needs to go.
I think the policy RU is adopting regarding attendance is ridiculous, but here is an idea. Meet your buddies at Applebee's or another restaurant then head over to watch the spring game around 6:30 or so.

‘This I might do.
Or sneak into Johnson Parking or Bartels Park and do some tailgating there.

I have one of those clear RU bags every game. The "security guard" holds the bottom with a gloves hand while I hold the handle. With their other gloves hand they take a stick and poke around in the bag for 7 seconds. All while outdoors. And we'd be masked Thursday night I spend more time closer to people in Shoprite than I would next to someone inspecting my bag.

I like to food shop. I like to pick my own fresh foods. I like to be inspired to cook by something I find while walking around the store. I'll never do curbside
Inspired by shopping at Shoprite? Wow. You should do ads for them.

There were some small discrete gatherings in the parking lot after the lacrosse game. Nobody was busting chops while I was there.
Good Luck. There weren't nearly 5k fans at a highly visible-publicized event like the spring game.

Have you ever been in a “big” ShopRite?

Like a Wegman-esque experience.
No, for some folks its easier to be inspired by an ad they point and click on to shop and hope the clerk grabs the right item. Hey, you can buy your next car from a vending machine so why not get your prime rib that way?
