We do have a very solid 8.
In addition to the Five possible starters mentioned, there is Mike Maietti, Sam Vretman, and Kamal Seymour.
The only defensive lines we controlled last year was Illinois' and Norfolk State's. Most of the time we had Dlineman in our backfield. Our OLine was not good last year. We need players to develop A LOT in the off season if we're going to have "solid 5".

He muffed a punt in the pouring rain/wind at Indiana.

And you're just saying he has poor lateral quickness because he's white. Really you have no idea what you're talking about.

It has nothing to do with him being white. Get out of here with that nonsense. There are plenty of white guys who have good lateral quickness Wes Welker, Ryan Switzer, Christian McCaffrey. I'm saying Hayek is straight line fast but he's not shaking people like Janarion Grant or Raheem Blackshear. You have no idea what you're talking about.

You're right that he is not as shifty as Grant or Blackshear. But I think you are underestimating his agility. Straightline speed is also important in punt returns. Devin Hester used to just outrun the gunners.

You said he's just not good back there and he's not a Big Ten quality returner. According to the staff he has the best hands on the team and is probably one of the fastest. Who else besides Blackshear on RU is a better candidate to return punts? Harris isn't "shiftier" than Hayek. Snorweah might be a candidate but idk how his hands are. Melton may be the only player on the team with better straight line speed but his hands may not be a good.

Anybody. He returned 4 punts for 8 yards and dropped 2 of them. He shouldn't be the punt returner. I think he could develop into a decent slot receiver but fielding punts, hell no.

You may eventually be proven correct in your assessment but a sample size of 8 returns as a true freshman doesnt conclusively tell me he won't or can't be a good punt returner.

Thats a good video for Ash, showing a good combination.of energy, football knowledge, tough love, and humor to be an effective coach.

Needs to work on his gameday sideline look, and his willingness to take a few chances on 4th down and short.

Agreed. He often looks sad or upset on the sideline. He should watch Full Metal Jacket. Let me see your war face:
