Does a starting QB emerge from the Spring game?
-My guess there will be three in the mix- Gio/Lewis/Sitkowski or Gio/Lewis/Chatman. Think that one or both Chatman or Sitkowski will redshirt. In which case, maybe Flacco gets in the mix.

* Practice 1: Tuesday, March 6 at 9:20 a.m.
* Practice 2: Thursday, March 8 at 9:20 a.m.
* Practice 3: Tuesday, March 20 at 9:20 a.m.
* Practice 4: Thursday, March 22 at 9:20 a.m.
* Practice 5: Saturday, March 24 at 9:55 a.m.
* Practice 6: Tuesday, March 27 at 9:20 a.m.
* Practice 7: Thursday, March 29 at 9:20 a.m.
* Practice 8: Friday, March 30 at 9:20 a.m.
* Practice 9: Tuesday, April 3 at 9:20 a.m.

I hope this football stuff doesn't interrupt our more important conversations on this board!

Looking forward to seeing our development in certain areas, QB and WR top of the list. Also, with the loss of Martin, Hicks and Edwards, who is gonna step up to fill their shoes.

And what about Sneed? He had a pretty solid offer list. Ash redshirted him last year, and seemed pretty positive about what he did in 2016.

They had a blurb about Sneed in there.
"Also don’t count out Trey Sneed, who redshirted as a sophomore last season."

I read an article today in which the writer made a good point about naming a starting QB after spring practice.

He said most coaches will not name a QB out of concern one or more of the other QB's might decide to transfer knowing they won't be the starter. Especially the more senior players. Obviously, you don't anyone transferring in case the "starter" gets injured in summer practice. Makes sense to me.

Wouldn't be surprised if a starter isn't named until about 10 days before the beginning of the season no matter what happens between now and then.

Don't think RB is going to be a position of concern.
WR is a different story.

This.
RB will be real strong for us.
Also have Chuck Snorweah in the mix.

We will need some young ones to really step up at WR: Melton, Lewis, Wormley, Hayek.

The bigger concerns are who's going to block for these RBs, whether McNulty can develop a QB who can throw the ball somewhere near whatever WRs wind up seeing the field, and whether someone can develop said WRs into functional B1G players.

I think you are worrying too much on this.
Our Blocking will be fine.
We have Cole, Krimm, Jackson, Vanesky, Clark. A solid 5 on the OL.

I'd call that a solid 2 or 3 with Cole and Jackson and maybe Maetti who you forgot. The rest haven't really been proven.

I just really hope one of the QBs just completely kills it. I want our coaching staff to be gushing about a guy (or two!) and not a quote like this from 2016 (and similar ones in 2017): "There are still way too many inconsistencies on both of them to say that one is ahead of the other or, 'Hey, this guy is going to be the guy,' " Ash said. "There's a lot of things that they both need to improve upon. Chris has some strengths over Hayden; Hayden has some strengths over Chris. Then it's going to be a matter of who can work on those weaknesses that they have and hopefully maybe pull in front of the other."

Excited to see what the new OC brings to the table and as per usual, excited for the QB comp. Please let's finally start developing someone

Didn't compare them just pointed out don't write someone off for missing 1 punt.

He muffed 2, he recovered one. And he just fair catches them anyway. He may be track fast but does not have the lateral quickness to be a B1G punt returner. He's just not good back there.

While it is possible - do not expect a lot of clarity in the spring regarding the way things will look in the fall -
Given the number of new coaches and new athletes (and even though a lot of work is going on now to judge capabilities) - there will still be a lot of "on field" taking inventory and getting substantive assessments of exactly what there is to work with -
so as far as who take ownership of what positions - figure that most things will be written on easily rearranged post-it note paper -
Lots of complimentary comments - lots of players will be 'showing great potential' - but since Rutgers Football is far from being a "well oiled machine" simply needing mild retooling & updates - and is actually going to be doing some significant re-engineering - it may be mid-summer before some aspects get locked down.

You may be right, but again, we did not see enough to make that a final determination.

He muffed a punt in the pouring rain/wind at Indiana.

And you're just saying he has poor lateral quickness because he's white. Really you have no idea what you're talking about.
