The "why we can't land elite recruits" excuse starter pack:

1. Lexington sucks as a location (but Durham, Fayetteville, Ann Arbor, Storrs, Gainesville, and Lawrence are totally awesome locations).
2. UK can't compete in NIL with its small market and because we're a "poor state" (and yet the state of Oklahoma with a near identical average household income and population can have an NBA team).
3. No one needs elite high school players anyway.
4. The parity now keeps UK from dominating like it once did (Duke, UConn, Kansas, and UNC have a combined 7 Final Fours since 2022).
It’s nothing but a bunch of fools bro.

Texas should be really good next season with Spears added.

Wish it would have been Kentucky, but I think writing was on the wall when the rumors of reclassification leaked last night. All attention should go to keeping Hampton and CJ Rosser. He should be priority 1

In all fairness Lawrence is a 40 minute drive from Kansas City and Storrs is an hour and a half drive from Boston and NYC and easily accessible by train. It's not like you are in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

Double whammy this week. First Nikola Kusturica confirmed to UCLA and now this. Not good.
And Hampton has had the summer from hell in the rankings.

The good news is that I have a growing trust in the new AD. He won't make Pope his pet project if he can't break into the 1st tier of the SEC next season.

One way or another, good things are coming. If Pope hits the jackpot and all these guys come together, that's awesome. Pope can run it back next year with elite player retention. If not, we get a new coach with an AD who knows how to raise funds.

You guys just want the most overwhelming talent in the history of basketball. Didn’t I watch 15 effing years of overwhelming talent with Crapapari? He won one effing title with in 15 years with loaded rosters here.
You nailed that one. The same group raised hell because he couldn’t win, now they’re raising hell cause he’s not here pulling in recruits.

So we know that phone call the other day really wasn’t all that “important.”

As many have pointed out, we’re never going to get top ten talent with Pope here.

So these NIL multimillionaires can't fly to Miami/NYC/LA in their downtime, eh? It all comes down to driving distance to the clubs, eh?

Why don't they all just commit to Miami or UCLA then?

Ain't buying it. The issue isn't "poor state" or "sucky location."

It's Pope.

You don't think Mashburn (from NYC); Walker, Ulis, Liggins, Reeves, Mohammed (from Chicago); Mercer (from Nashville); Fox (from Houston); or any of the other elite players we've had over the years wanted to be closer to the clubs?

Without the NBAPA lockout, Cal would have had 0 titles at UK. We don't get a title without AD.

I never said it wasn't Pope. You said Lawrence and Storrs were out of the way locations, and they are close to major cities if one wants to go shopping and see a major concert or professional sporting event.

You can tell some of these guys have never left kentucky. KU has the only campus that is not a better than Lexington in terms of lifestyle available, IMO.

Arkansas as well, but no one has ever said their location helped them. Their recruiting g is 100% all Cal.

For those really wanting UK to land this kid maybe it’s still possible. He has to play 2 years, right? Let’s say next season Miller’s primary goal is winning and Spears backs up David Punch (as he likely will) or even shares time with another backup PF option and is played mostly for development purposes for the payoff 2nd year. Spears, however, thinks he should have been the man at Texas and decides he wants to transfer. Now he’s more mature physically and has a year in the SEC even if his playing time was more limited than he wanted. If UK had any potential to be an attractive option for him (e.g., his cousin playing at UK or whatever) you now have a player that might be able to actually help UK win who got there on someone else’s dime.

Probably not a likely scenario, as Miller will probably convince Spears that the 2nd year is the pay-off year and that's what they're working toward. But who knows.

You actually suck as a fan. You really do. You’re by far my least favorite poster, and that says a lot. All you do is complain.
I've said he was the worst poster on this board since forever. He trolls this board with brand new threads, nonstop, and gets away with it because this is a "Pope sux" forum ever since he was hired. He may well be a fan, but he's the guy you roll your eyes at if you ever meet him and get away as fast as possible. He gets off on being an a$$ here.

We also won more NCAA tournament games that any coach in the country over Cal's time here. We beat more higher seeds in the tourney than any coach in the country over that time. We won more SEC tournament games than any coach over Cal's time here. UK was a natioan brand and in the mix for a FF almost every year.

Downplay all of UK accomplishments you want to prop up Pope but that dog just won't hunt.
