Varnell goes before Nash County board Monday for final approval.. Hopefully just a formality.
That forfeit this past season makes sense now. He was already in bed with them lol.

Well it's now official, varnell is the new head coach at Nash Central. One of the sentences in the statement in regards to his tenure at SWE was, "during his tenure, varnell built a strong and competitive program". Found that interesting. I'm sure some SWE faithful may have mixed feelings about that.

Posting the vacancy on Facebook let's me know that we don't have anybody in mind. Or willing smh. Seems like phone calls would be enough.

The county I’m sure has to advertise the job and go through an interview process. They can’t just say let’s hire this dude without going through the process.

Another interesting quote was "brings a proven track record of success, and strong leadership."

I’ve heard Kee-rock(not sure if I spelled that right) is a strong possibility. Also hurdle posted on Facebook that he applied. I also know of a couple others that have applied but I’ll keep their names quiet.

I’ve seen some drama on Facebook from Nash central people about the hiring of Varnell.

Any fear that any of the players would follow Varnell to Nash Central?
I don't think so. Not that I've heard, anyway. Players should recognize that Nash Central isn't gonna finish ahead of Rocky Mount, Northern Nash, Southern Nash, or Hunt any time soon. Nor are they a threat to be a top half 4A east team either.

Idk they may finish ahead of Southern. But yeah I can't see any leaving to go with varnell.

Surprised that NC hired him to begin with. When the drama happened a few years ago, I really thought Southwest would move on from him. He's a young guy, so I'm sure he's going to get better, but I felt he could've done more with some of the talent he had.

Heard from a parent of a SWE player today that depending on who the next coach is - a few players that played for Lee Gold at West Edgecombe could try to transfer to play for him at NE. I said that sounded crazy but she insisted it’s a real possibility.

Actually wouldn’t shock me. Coach Gold was at West for years

With the way the 1A landscape is now, I wouldn't dream of wanting to play for a traditional 1A school, especially in the East. There's no shot. The 1A mountain teams may still be relevant, but for the most part, 1A isn't fair anymore.

Idk the 1A championship went to an east team last year.

This makes it that much more important for SWE to nail whoever the next head coach is.

maybe not, but his players from West loved him. As 18 said, that makes the hire that much more important.

There has been one person that applied that has over 10 letters of recommendation for the job from HS, College Coaches and Administration including past schools he worked at all stating his discipline, commitment, and compassion for the program and can unify the community and school. He is hoping for a chance to bring the program back to its 1980s statue and bring a offensive that will electrify the players and community with a fast pace scheme. Along with that he will bring coaches that have played at a higher level including college and NFL, along with ex players from SWE who all want to see these young QBs air it out and have a balanced offensive. I hope they give him a chance to rebuild the program and return it to its glory.
