Southern Guilford Football Program Update
After a great deal of discussion and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision that Southern Guilford High School will not field a Junior Varsity Football Team for the 2026 season.
This decision was not made lightly. Due to a combination of a large graduating class, an unprecedented level of roster attrition through student transfers, and an overall decline in participation numbers, we do not feel we can responsibly sustain both a varsity and junior varsity program throughout the season. Rather than begin the season and risk not being able to finish it, we believe this is the most responsible decision for our student-athletes and our program.
While we know this news will be disappointing to many of our players, families, and supporters, our commitment to Southern Guilford Football has not changed. Our focus remains on providing the best possible experience for our student-athletes while continuing to rebuild and strengthen the program for years to come.
Our varsity football team will compete as scheduled this fall, with all previously announced game dates and times remaining unchanged. We are excited to support our players and coaches as they represent Southern Guilford throughout the season.
Football players and their families will receive additional information regarding this decision, including details about an upcoming parent meeting where we will discuss the decision and outline the plan moving forward.
We are grateful to our student-athletes, coaches, families, alumni, and community members who continue to invest in our program. Building a successful program takes time, commitment, and perseverance, and we remain fully committed to that process. We are confident that the work being done today will help position Southern Guilford Football for long-term success and allow us to return to fielding a complete varsity and junior varsity program in the future.
Thank you for your continued support, encouragement, and belief in Southern Guilford Athletics. We look forward to seeing everyone on Friday nights as we rally behind our Storm football team this season.

Part of the problem is Guilford County built too many schools, too quickly.

Built to many schools? Where? That's definitely not the problem. The problem is kids transferring throughout the county. Thinking they're going to get better looks or offers or win a state championship. But what they're really doing is helping coaches get that coach get his or her next job because they can't coach their own kids up to be successful that they have in their program .

Grimsley, Dudley, Page and Northern get majority of the talent. Northeast is also on the rise.

Grimsley, Dudley, Northern have EXCELLENT head coaches and staffs. Transfers go there because of that.

I’d look for all those transfers to Page to leave after this year. That staff is an absolute joke. Head coach too busy popping wheelies on his motorcycle.

Are you still bringing up that about the coach at Page. That's like a broken record just like these other people that bring up stuff about other stuff that going on in this country. Give it a break. You must really have something against that Coach. I guess the AD that stepped down is terrible as well ? Note he has a state championship ring he was a Coach on that staff that won it in 2011, championship runner up in 2015 and 2016. And he is a great coach that knows his stuff. Definitely a big boost having him back.

You do realize that Guilford County had like 80,000 plus kids at one time . Unlike Rockingham County that has a few 1000. Come on buddy.

What is your point? My point still stands. I lived and worked in Guilford county so i know how it works. I don't care about Rockingham county, I don't watch any of the other teams besides Reidsville.
