You guys have Jack in the Box and Cookout. Obviously not bbq but still winners. I have Rodney Scott's cookbook. I had an excellent smoked turkey club sandwich in Gaffney, SC around 12 years ago. I did a search here and found mention of Maurice's Piggy Pot. What are the must try bbq spots in SC in 2026?

There’s a really good New Yorker article about BBQ in the Carolinas (around 2016 I think, I’ll try to find it). I think they explain the origins of mustard based BBQ sauce.

I’m biased since I grew up in SC, but I think we have the best BBQ. Main thing is that all three types of sauces are popular in different regions of the state, whereas NC is apparently vinegar based (which is my fav so not a big deal for me)

Edit to add the NY article: https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2017/04/24/americas-most-political-food

East Carolina vinegar based is the only real BBQ. Everything else in the Carolinas is poser trash.

I haven't been to SC since 2021. Had to stop at a BBQ spot and damn, it was phenomenal.
