If we can have threads to discuss how good Ohio State is and how many 4/5 stars they have on their team then isn't it fair game to make comparisons with opponents on the other end of the spectrum?
I think the point is that OSU is kind of where we want to head not to the opponents on the bottom end of the spectrum. Personally I don't mean to bash the guys on the team now, but it was pretty obvious that OSU has way more physical talent than we do. The stat about how experienced their O line is another place we need to be 2-3 years from now as well.

I said in my USA notes that this is a 6 to 8 win team, and included CU as a win. It's 5 to 7 now. I'm just hoping and praying we can get to 6 and play in the Pinstripe bowl.
I had us at 4-8 last year with Frost.

I had us at 5-7 this year. I hope I’m wrong but so far every game has went as predicted for that 5-7 record.

NW is the first game that could change. I had us losing this one but they’re beatable this year.

Record is 1-4. Aside from their win vs. Scrub U, the Husker game was their most competitive by quite a margin. A bit more concerning than 1st thought.
I don't take anyone on here with less than 200 posts or 100 likes seriously. Odds say you are an Iowa troll.

No doubt. But if it is a true sign of the season to come how the hell did we blow out N. Illinois? They beat us 2 years ago, did they not? If we win against Northwestern, how is the struggle against S. Alabama a true sign of the season to come?

Of course things were overstated. The loss to Colorado showed that, as well as the close game with Illinois. But I still believe the S. Alabama game was game 1. If we played them the third game of the season I have no doubt the score would have been totally different.
Isn't it possible that Northern Illinois was better 2 years ago than they are this season?

Date joined is also a qualifier. There's some good Husker fans who post on here with very few posts. I think they must actually have lives and normally don't waste as much time on here as some of us....

Absolutely. But isn’t it also possible that Northern Illinois is better than S. Alabama this year?

The real question is if Eastern Michigan is better than Western Michigan. Remember when directional schools were just a game to casually watch so you could see the walk ons from small towns in Nebraska play in the 4th quarter?

Been a fan all my life. I lurked in here for a year before I realized I could join for free. Completely normal for older well established posters to be more respected. I'd have to assume some of us newbies are actual contributors but it could be hard to distinguish between us and trolls for a while.

To follow up... I guess my point is, why do we put more emphasis on the first game of the season, which was closer than any husker fan would like, and de-emphasize N. Illinois, which was the third game of the season, and happened to be a blowout?

South Alabama was the canary in the coal mine - horrible team and we struggled - hopefully we get much better but we have a long ways to go

The reality is, if you’re a pessimist, you emphasize S. Alabama. If you’re an optimist you emphasize N. Illinois.

Fair?

Reality is we are currently the worst defense in the Big10 by points allowed - I am not a pessimist by nature I am an optimist - however one can not ignore the reality of where we are - South Alabama was the warning rattle - N Ill was a step forward CU and especially OSU were major steps back. To say we are better because we beat N Ill is not logical. As of right now I think this team looks worse than last year, now that does not mean they can not change that but:

QB - Looks worse
Defense - No improvement
Oline - worse
RB's - push
Kicking - much worse

My overall point is, once again, basing our season on the first game struggles against an inferior opponent is kind of silly.

You’ve made a strong case here, basing your argument on the season to date, which I appreciate. But I don’t see how one can say our defense has not improved.

Point allowed through 5 games last year - 155. Points allowed through 5 games this year 149 - defense has not improved

interesting

Do we know how many turnovers we had that led to points through 5 last year vs this year. Just curious. Eye test says defense looks better to me.

my mistake actually last year we gave up 196 points in first 5 games - turnovers are better but mainly due to South Alabama game

So you guys may be right, the defense even though we still suck, we suck less than last year

I guess I would be in that category. However, I do read a lot of posts. It seems like a lot of posters on here know a lot more information than I do. I don't want to comment on things that I don't know a lot about like Iowa fans do. :p
