When you're at that level of salary, you don't get job security unless you're a doctor or some other kind of highly trained professional. He had eight years to build up his resume in Starkville.

Wow, some sour grapes there. Excuse me if I don't feel sorry for you not being able to figure out how to feed your family after making 200k plus for however many years.

You absolutely right. His total earnings at Msu was over 1.2 Million, if he doesn't have a rainy day fund thats 100% his fault. Starkville aint that expensive

Plus in that profession, it's a must to have some money set aside. Coaches hired and fired all the time.

I don't like for anybody to lose their job, but you take it like a man, strap up them boots and move on.

I got nothing against the guy but his two tweets before this one are the answer to his entire tweet...

This is rather interesting. Someone that used to be close to the program told me that Mullen and Sallach were actually roommates in college and appeared to be friends. Wonder what happened?

Not sure why an adult would take to social media to vent about career challenges. Reminds me of the guy who came here a while back for marital advice.

I'm guessing Mullen decided he wanted to win more than 5 games more than he wanted his old college roommate to have a job.

Is this the guy that Mullen hugged immediately after the Auburn win in '14 that put us #1? If so, I thought they were inseparable.

I though he had already been moved off the field. Maybe he told Mullen he didn't want to do the desk job assigned to him and wanted back on the field.

Hadn't he been moved off the field previously? If so, then he probably should have taken the hint to move on.

No, that was someone else. He is not doing himself any favors in attracting a new job by putting things like this out in public. Not smart.

How many college football coaches or assistant coaches keep a job longer than 8 years?

That's right...thanks. And what does John Clark do for us? Isn't he an old...

I think you're thinking of John Clark.

friend of Mullens? That's perfectly fine if he is...Mullen probably trusts him absolutely, buried skeletons and what not.

I'm sure he has a rainy day fund. He wasn't coming close to living above his means in Starkville. He has a wife and two small kids, so I wish him luck in his next endeavor and thank him for his contributions to MSU. He will land a job somewhere, just probably not one at a power 5 school.

Could you imagine how bad it would be if Hev got pushed out with his temper? Might be one reason Mullen has never had the nerve to make a move.

Agree. These things happen and suck for anyone involved. You know it couldn't have been pleasant for DM, but being moved off the field had to be sign. Being out a job as a football coach can't be that unusual. He should settle in to something if he doesn't muck up his exit. We've all got to grin and bear it from time to time... especially when there's family involved.

Best to handle with class.

$1.2M over 8 years is only $150k per year. Certainly good money, but that's not exactly retire after 8 years money. It is have one years living expenses saved up type money, which is I think the minimum you would want as a college coach.

But definitely a bad look. He's probably (understandably) extremely disappointed/upset right now, which is probably a good time to put a moratorium on tweets, facebook posts, etc.

Worse .... is that some of our own will inflame the situation and send him into the arms of the russians who are just dying and willing to pony up any amount of goodies just to catch our program in a compromisable position or gather any dirt for their own purposes. For realz.

Was primary on one landed 4* in 8 years(Shumpert). The TE position needs to be a lights out recruiter. Sallach never was, IMO.

This reminds me what Howlin Wolf used to sang.

Now lookit here
I did not say I was a millionaire
But I said I have spent more money than a millionaire
'Cause if I had kept all the money then I had already spent
I would've been a millionaire a long time ago
And women, great googly-moogly!

We've all more than likely "moved on" from jobs, sometimes of our own choosing & sometimes not. You might vent to a close friend or girl, but you don't publicly bemoan your situation to spite your former employer. That's petty as 17. Have some integrity & take the high road.

Ok here's the deal. He robbed this university in the end when you think about it. What did he coach? Tight ends. The position group as a whole that has been underwhelming since Dan has been in Starkville. Who did he recruit to
Starkville? I got nothing. I'm sure he got somebody but it couldn't have been more than 1-2 kids. He really was dead weight on this staff.

I can't even remember hearing a post game interview from him. Never heard his name attached to any recruit. And like you said the TE position group as a whole has been mediocre at best. The only argument I would entertain is him thinking his job was safe based on Hevesy's mediocre performance, but even that's a stretch.

You and I have a different idea of how much $1.2 million dollars is if you're out of a job

Well he can make some nice quick cash by making up stories about Mullen and program to sell to their interested disassociated boosters.
