From an earlier Bloomberg article about the same subject

"The government funding will help BioNTech build out manufacturing and development capacity in its home market, the Mainz-based company said. Pfizer will keep paying for its share of development costs for the experimental vaccine without public money."

Apparently the German money was for building production facilities in Germany....not for Pfizer research. So why the misleading headline now ?

Some key parts of the article for those that cant focus long enough to read full articles...

Vice President Mike Pence was among Trump administration officials saying support from the government’s Operation Warp Speed program helped accelerate the development of the vaccine, which was found to be more than 90% effective in preventing symptomatic Covid-19 infections in an interim analysis.
The truth is that Pfizer didn’t receive any funding from Operation Warp Speed for the development, clinical trial and manufacturing of the vaccine. Rather, its partner, BioNTech SE, has received money -- from the German government.

The biotechnology company already had a history of working with Pfizer on influenza vaccines, and in March they clinched a deal to co-develop a shot to prevent against Covid-19 at research sites both in the U.S. and Germany. The two companies began human testing of the vaccine in April, before the existence of Operation Warp Speed was revealed publicly.

Berlin gave the German company $445 million in an agreement in September to help accelerate the vaccine by building out manufacturing and development capacity in its home market.
What the U.S. did, meanwhile, was commit to buying hundreds of millions of vaccines in advance to ensure Americans were among the first in line if it clinches an emergency-use authorization or approval from the FDA.

Some Republicans, including Donald Trump Jr. and Texas Senator Ted Cruz, questioned the timing of Pfizer’s release of its positive data on Monday, almost a week after the presidential election -- with the implication that the information could’ve changed the outcome and tipped the scales toward President Donald Trump, who lost to former Vice President Joe Biden.

Pfizer said on Oct. 27, a week before Election Day, that it hadn’t met the threshold for positive cases that would’ve allowed it to report the data. After that, it revised its trial protocols to raise that threshold higher, after consulting with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on what would be acceptable to gain approval. The FDA has been under pressure from scientists to set tough standards for a vaccine so that Americans will feel it has been rigorously vetted and is safe to use.
If Pfizer hadn’t raised its threshold in response to the FDA’s recommendations, it’s possible it could’ve hit the lower bar of 32 positive cases before the Nov. 3 election. But it’s unclear when the trial hit that number. The company didn’t find out it had surpassed the new, revised threshold of 62 positive cases until Sunday.

All along, Pfizer’s top executives have attempted to quell notions that it has been influenced by political players.
Chief Executive Officer Albert Bourla has repeatedly said that the drug giant has avoided taking taxpayer dollars for research and development purposes.

CNN took their Covid # tracker off of their monitors within a couple hours after the call of Biden President-Elect. Imagine that.
The right candidate gets a projected victory and they don't give 2 ***** about reporting on Covid cases/deaths anymore.

On the flipside, today our republican governor finally announced some sort of mask policy. She resisted all this time while the state had some of the highest positivity rates in the country through the summer and fall, because she claimed Iowans would 'do the right thing'. And finally just after the election, she accepts reality and declares masks have to be worn when there are gatherings of 25 or more people.
Way to put your foot down, Kim.***

So Bloomberg created a misleading headline in that Pfizer's "vaccine funding" did not come from Germany and the FDA arbitrarily moved the goalpost at the last moment and the announcement was delayed because of their decision......what else you got ?

Development costs are 50/50 bt Pfizer and BioNTech

"The government funding will help BioNTech build out manufacturing and development capacity in its home market, the Mainz-based company said. Pfizer will keep paying for its share of development costs for the experimental vaccine without public money."

Apparently the German money was for building production facilities in Germany....not for Pfizer research. So why the misleading headline now ?

I believe Pfizer fronted some of the initial costs and BioNTech will or has paid back. Either way, the only government subsidizing the development costs of the vaccine comes from outside of the United States. Thanks, Merkel.

There are plenty of press releases on both company's websites. The relationship has been very transparent as well and the subsidies involved.

I'm talking about on Television not the website. You know more eyes see the CNN cable news feed than the website. It's forced upon us in every single airport terminal. All day, every day.

Interesting article. Wonder why they stored the samples for a couple of weeks right before the election as they were getting close to the threshold, then checked them directly after the election? I think we know why.

This is from the shortened summary of the article. It explains why so that you neednt wonder any longer.

Oh, when you said 'monitors', I took that to mean computer monitors and not TV screens.
I did not know more eyes see CNN the station than CNN the website. I bet I couldnt guess within 100,000 how many views each gets.

And I just saw that apparently your claim is incorrect and has already been directly corrected by CNN and some Fox News guy.

So, they were short last week — raised the threshold — then met the new, increased threshold 5 days later? You need to read more on the topic. The samples that would have and did put them beyond the threshold have been in storage. Again — I wonder why?

[h=1]Pfizer Vaccine’s Funding Came From Berlin, Not Washington[/h]The vaccine's funding partially came Germany. I guess for the more obtuse of us, they should have said "Pfizer/BioNTech Vaccine's..." in the headline instead.

The data isn't even ready for FDA approval submission.

The US government made no investment in this vaccine. Bourla intentionally kept Pfizer out of the US public funding to avoid the mess that bureaucracy creates. Some people are writing off Pfizer's release as jumping the gun bc the data isn't yet pubic. I don't really have a reason to believe Bourla to be a giant bullshitter, but at this point you could argue this is corporate hype more than vetted science.

If you have an issue positive news for publicly funded vaccines not being released by Election Day, take it up with Moderna.

Pfizer's vaccine funding vs Pfizer vaccine's funding. Makes a significant difference if focused on the headline as you are. It implies the vaccine was partially funded by Germany. That is a factually correct headline.

If only CNN would correct themselves on what they report that is inaccurate. I only watch it in airports, as I travel a lot for work. So, I was going off of the observations of someone elses reports. I apologize.

It's the Deep State in the FDA. Try to keep up. Stephen Hahn, Trump's 5th FDA Commissioner, has obviously been sucked into the Deep State vortex.

Four FDA commissioners went through the turnstile in 2019 alone. That is a seriously tough stretch.

it revised its trial protocols to raise that threshold higher, after consulting with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on what would be acceptable to gain approval.

If, Pfizer is lying about the threshold Hahn can easily provide evidence of that. I'll hang up and listen.

no disagreement. i give about half a **** about this, so i for sure could read more on it, but my half **** of care has held me back.

The samples that would have and did put them beyond the threshold have been in storage. Again — I wonder why?
regardless of the location of the samples, if the company didnt know until the threshold had been passed until Sunday the 8th, then they wouldnt announce surpassing the threshold until after the 8th.
did you want them to announce before surpassing the threshold?

I am struggling to understand what you are so upset over. Its a 17ing headline in 2020, why is that even something to discuss? The actual article is what is important.
There is a vaccine, weknowdis.
There is funding, weknowdis.
Berlin gave Pfizer's partner some money to help speed up the production process, weknowdis.

You are arguing a distinction without a difference. Lets say everyone in the world agrees with you and the headline is bad. So the 17 what?
