He should have been given an offer. We strike out 50% with out of state recruits. 50% of out of state recruits don’t do anything at WVU. That’s every year. Look it up. We get a bunch of low quality offensive lineman from other states that don’t help us. Some work out but many flop. What did we have to lose by offering him and brining him on?

Targets higher on the board. He camped at West Virginia, they were fully aware of what he brought to the table.

I wish the kid well but it’s not a good look if a Morgantown kid shines at Pitt. We must evaluate in state kids harder. The talent is growing. Build a wall around WV.

Link to your 50% quote. What do we have to lose? A 1 star taking a scholarship away from a 4 start recruit. The kid should walk on if he wants to play for WVU.

If the kid was any good, he'd have offers. Second, Pitt will take anyone right now who is willing to come to that circus. Third, kid hasn't played a down yet and you have him "shining" at Pitt and being evaluated poorly. Truth is, the kid, and nobody even knows his name, WILL probably play at Pitt and after his 4 years are up nobody still won't know his name.

Finally, would you at least answer what it is you mean by your statement "50% of the out of state kids flame out"? Does that mean not start? Not on the two deep? 3 deep? Ever play a down?

Truth is, we have a couple of WV boys on the defensive side of the ball who are starters. These kids you keep propping up as shining examples? In reality, if WVU wants to win anything of significance, kids like these two should probably be 2nd or 3rd teamers instead of being thrust into starting roles due to the lack of quality on that side of the ball.

What do we have to lose? A scholarship that could be better served on a player from a position of need rather than for an in-state kid who's best chance of seeing the field probably comes from enrolling at West Virginia State.

Also, to go along with the 50% of the out of state kids that don't do anything, how about the 98% of WV kids who never see the field and are nothing more than glorified tackling dummies?

I know! Let's bench Grier for some Morgantown High school hack who nobody even knows. Damn you Dana for holding back the state kids. These are NFLer's being held back by poor evaluating. Gosh, with your thinking we'd go 0-12 and lose to Youngstown by 30 but by golly Billy Joe Whatcchamacallit from Podunk WV would be in the NFL next year...

Spartanstink you can’t be that lost on this subject. You seem confused. I’m not saying bench Grier or anybody who’s good. C’mon dude. The point is we need to keep a few more good in state WV recruits each year. We get some but we need to get a few more. The out of state recruits are flaming, flopping at a 50% rate every year. We have nothing to lose. I never said have an all WV starting lineup. We just need to do a better job keeping and evaluating WV talent. The talent is on rise in WV. Take advantage.

Get a clue. Your way off. Charleston, WV native Dorian Etheridge is a NFL LB at Louisville. He should be a WVU star. Poor evaluation or lack there of is why future NFL WR Elijah Bell is at NC A@T. Bell is from Wheeling, WV. Those few in state recruits could make a huge difference. Get a few more each year. Nothing to lose.

same old tired *** Pride response. Build a wall, Trump is the man, out of state recruits stink, 2 mediums for $10, carry-out or delivery. You ever get tired of saying the same things over and over?

You say not to bench Grier or anybody good but in reality you are - because you would take away their scholarship and give it to some in-state kid who isn't on the same talent level.

Your way of thinking is circular. The one or two every 3 years that leave and play (much less start) somewhere else were good and misses but the 20 or so we have on the roster every year who don't contribute anything more than being a tackling dummy aren't mentioned?

You also keep repeating the 50% line for out of state recruiting. I know one set of talent that ISN'T on the rise in WV - basic math. 50% of flame outs, to use your tired metrics, is still better than 98% flame outs.

Finally, your response is Dorian Etheridge? A sure-fire NFL'er with these stats - 0 forced fumbles, 0 interceptions, 0 sacks, 0 tackles for loss. If those are NFL stats then i"m waiting for my Hall of Fame induction notice.Would he help out on this defense - probably. But he'd be the third weakest link behind the other two in-state starters.

If Jack Fleming was still alive, he'd have led a middle of the night march to the kid's house, taken the family by force, and set them adrift in a jonboat on the Mon while leading the mob in the WVU fight song as the family drifted out of sight towards Pittsburgh. And he would have got away with it.

Pitt was the source of all evil according to Saint Jack.
