Sorry, Cal. This is embarrasing ...

To be fair, almost all of them are embarrassing for a grown man. To be fair, I listen to death metal, so I have low tolerance for cheesy, girly music and I also probably can't hear.

Sinatra? Great.
Marvin Gaye? Soft, but great at what he did.
Eagles, Temptations, B2M? Little soft, but at least they can write.

Pearl Jam? I can hear the same vocals by kicking a large housecat in the balls.
Kid Rock? I've met him, he's a nice guy, but he literally rhymed "things" with "things". C'mon.

Everything else listed is inexcusable for a grown man to listen to for any extended period.

I'm willing to give metal a chance. Could you post you favorite metal music video?

Not my cup of tea, preacher, but as a fanatical metal devotee, let me hit you with a bit of Christian metal to share with those of your flock who are so musically inclined:

I'll start on the American side, more in the vein of what you posted.

These guys, whom you've likely heard of, have that nice American, wide-appeal pop, rockish vibe on a lot of tunes.

They don't go all the way heavy, but they do enter into headbanging territory:

This band is not Christian, but they produce unique and fantastic melodic metal - their singer became a Christian while playing with the band, and wrote some pretty explicitly Christian tunes, such as this one, shortly before leaving:

Then, if you have any church members who appreciate the real heavy stuff, we have to travel to Europe, naturally -

First, some heavy-ish folk metal, for those who might enjoy bands like Eluveitie or Korpiklaani:

And finally, a band that has evolved considerably in style, ultimately producing this classic melodic death metal album in the vein of Amon Amarth or Carcass (excuse the typo in the video) -

I'll stop now, because I don't want to flood the thread with the most niche post I've ever dropped on RR.

You listen to heavy metal and make fun of anyone's vocals? Metal vocals are a bunch of grunting and screaming.
I'd rather listen to a fearsome roar about viking conquests than hear Eddie Vedder make incisive political commentary while sounding like he just came home from the dentist with shots of local anesthesia.

Just a preference thing, though. My favorite vocals are sharp and strong, whether that's Bing Crosby or Whitney Houston or Karen Carpenter or the big, hairy viking guy.

They all have very different vocal styles, but whatever they're doing, they're effective at it.

Eddie Vedder sounds to me like he's trying to sing words, but they're just not coming out right. Like a speech impediment. Just sounds lazy to me. Drives me bonkers.

Again, just a preference thing, though. PJ are good songwriters.

I'm willing to give metal a chance. Could you post you favorite metal music video?
Depends what you want - clean vocals, I assume? Do you like lord of the rings type fantasy? Do you like poetry? Melodramatic or somber?
Do you enjoy angry, sad, or happy/triumphant music? There is a lot of variety out there.

I love this challenge - I get one chance to sell metal to a non metalhead.

Tell you what -

I'll give you two top-shelf bands with clean vocals: one very dramatic and one more somber. Then, I'll give you an incredibly high level growled-vocals band.

I'd love to hear your feedback, because I'm always interested in introducing people who are new to metal.

Here we go -

Somber band with clean vocals:

Dramatic band with clean vocals - already posted this band for preacher, but I'll give you another tune:

Finally, a band with the stereotypical "cookie monster" vocals that non-metal heads like to complain about. And that's fine, but at least listen to how damn good their melodies are, first:

The last one is a lyric video, which should help you with the "not understanding the vocals" part, and maybe it will allow you to appreciate the artistry of some of these really heavy bands. They're not all like this - some of the death metal bands produce absolute garbage with silly, violent lyrics. But there are bands like Insomnium which produce beautiful poetry and gorgeous melodies.

These are 3 of the best metal bands that exist. See what you think. If it's not your cup of tea, not the end of the world.

I don't get people who mostly just listen to a single niche genre. I like variety.
On the off chance that this post is about me, I don't.

I listen to a wider mix of music than anybody I know. But everybody has soft spots for certain styles. Sometimes you don't recognize 'em until you start keeping an itunes playlist and take a look at the number of listens.

The only George Michael song I heard was Careless Whisper. And I heard it on Deadpool.

No. Here is their most famous song.

Hey, soul sister.
Ain't that Mister Mister on the radio?
Stereo.
The way you move ain't fair, you know.

followed by ...

So gangster, I'm so thug.
You're the only one I'm dreaming of.

I defy you to find anything else worse than that.

Cal should have just said "I don't have time to listen to music."

at least he didn't say something douchey like "oh beethoven. mozart is so pedestrian."

i'd have answered honestly: "Selena gomez because she's hot, and I have a thing for mexicans"

I was joking. I've never heard of any of those people. I thought you might post an example of each of their videos.
They are the singers of two classic metal bands, Judas Priest and Iron Maiden. I gave you newer metal before, but if you're curious to hear some older metal, here you go:

Maiden:

Dio (a poppier tune of theirs for non-metal listeners):

Metallica (surely you've heard this one):

I won't give you Judas Priest, because I'm not a huge fan, so I'm probably not a good person to pick a song of theirs for you.

I really liked Metallica growing up. I basically stopped listening when they started putting out load, reload, rereload. Rerereload, etc

Train's first album is actually really good and different than the crap they play now. Don't like them at all now.
