After seeing some of the new football facilities on YouTube( Clemson, Oklahoma, Minnesota,Northwestern and a few others) and Moos and Frost suggesting that it is time we invest in new football facilities..

Moos mentions at one time that were one of the worst in the conference ( didn’t believe this) and now he says on Thursday “we have good facilities they’re more than adequate for what we’re doing right now.

Frost mentions our locker rooms are no longer big enough now that we’re getting more walk on’s in the program and don’t have enough seats in the team room and their training room now is too small.

After seeing Oklahoma new 160 million dollar renovated facilities with a 132,000 square foot Locker room, training room, Coaches offices, Lincoln Riley office is phenomenal) and a 32,582 square foot strength and conditioning room that tripled the size of their previous one..
Of course Minnesota is also unbelievable but theirs was built for all of their student athletes..

Moos also reiterated that there is nothing imminent and looking at in the future..
I believe Nebraska needs to act on this SOONER rather than later which would really benefit our recruiting that he have to battle with anyway.. Some have mentioned that we would have room over by the outdoor practice Fred Weir track..

I think Moos has had to pull the reins in a bit due to not getting the $$$ reception he was expecting from donors to get facility upgrades...hence the nothing imminent

I don't think for a second that Frost and Moos both talking about facilities wasn't coordinated

go for broke. new stadium.

I really don’t think that is necessary this is college football not Pro football..

Very seldom do you see other universities build a brand new spanking stadium if at all..

We have definitely fallen way behind in the facilities race. This will eventually kill recruiting and needs to be addressed sooner rather than later. And don’t give me that crap about reluctant donors. How many millions are we getting from the B1G right now? Do Purdue, Minnesota and Northwestern have deeper pockets than we do? How did they afford their fancy new digs?

Osborne was great because he knew where he coached: in the middle of nowhere. And that meant he understood that Nebraska had to stand out above the rest in facilities, training, academic support and so on.
We need new facilities. Sooner rather than later as the OP says

We are already bled to death in taxes in this state and donations to even keep your seats are a pretty penny. Build the damn facilities already enough excuses

Me and the missus would love to retire back to Nebraska, but won't because of the tax burden. NE is one of a handful of states that taxes Social Security, no break on pensions, income tax is higher than most, and property tax in Douglas/Sarpy.....really? Good God y'all, where does the money go????

the school is the smallest public school in the conference with an agricultural focus and not many highly ranked professional schools - the individual donor pool is a lot smaller in volume and earnings than almost every other Big Ten school. Michigan's endowment in 11 billion - Nebraska's is 1.7.

It would be nice if Buffett would write a big check but hear he does not see value in investing in athletics.
One too many athletes probably called him a nerd during his time at Nebraska.

We aren't going to compete in a full blown arms race

Valid post. However winning will solve problems. Winning, commitment, integrity, support/facilities, getting to the next level, fan support and growth personally and professionally are what kids and families/parents are looking for.

Right now we have several but not all. Probably 50/50. It'll come just not all at the same time. Unfortunately facilities expansion might be the last cog.

Don't think they will do much until Bounds is replaced. If they find someone as passionate as Bounds they can probably crank it up but if they get a Perlman type it's a tough sell.

Not sure how State taxes are relevant to this discussion. Nebraska football has one of the few power 5 programs in the country which receives no financial support from its State budget.

Conversely, The Iowa Hawkeyes receive millions from the Iowa State Legislature.

I think the Hawkeyes are self sustaining now.

Wow, and ISU receives nothing like Nebraska?

Possibly true, but when Frost says that we are running out of room with our positions rooms are too small, our training rooms are too small our locker rooms don’t have enough seats etc, etc..And since it’s been awhile for any improvements to the Football facility’s it’s time to take this seriously, if OU can do this so should Nebraska and it doesn’t have to be 160 million or what ever they spent but it does need to be modernized..

This. You don’t need to spend $160 million. You can do it in increments as well. Prioritize needs and then move forward quickly. Sounds like we should begin with new locker rooms and meeting rooms. Then move on to an expanded weight room and player’s lounge. I would build one large as hell “all in one” football facility over where the track is now. You could still build that in increments if money is an issue

If 80,000 fans would send the athletic department $100.00 each per year for the next ten years, then you have lots of cash to get things done. OK, which one of you will send first? ;)

Update or build new facilities but design them to maximize the experience for 85 scholarship players and a very select group of walkons. The roster numbers are stressing the capacity of the facilities as we are adding an army of walkons. At some point the number of reps a player gets and coaching focus gets diluted due to excessive numbers.

Be more selective in the walk-on evals and/or tell kids that we see potential and in the future you may be a contributor and recommend they go to a juco of our choosing and prove they deserve a roster spot.

I couldn't disagree more with this.

kids from NE, who grow up dreaming of playing for Big Red, who will risk life and limb every single day behind the scenes, are the backbone of this program. getting national recruits is great, but none understand what it truly means to represent NE until an undersized kid from a small town with the heart of a lion shows him up in practice after busting his *** to earn his reps.

we should take any and all who want to give their blood, sweat and tears to bring this program back to national relevance.

It simply is not practical to have unlimited numbers. Even at the current 150 players you are 65 over the scholarship limit. Title 9 starts to come into play along with coaching reps, equipment, space, and it goes on and on. When do the numbers become a problem affecting the scholarship players? I know Frost wants the numbers, I understand that, it naturally increases the odds of finding that late bloomer. But there is a cost to it and it isn't just a space issue and they don't get to hire more coaches.

Another thought is keep the numbers manageable so it becomes an honor awarded and not a right of passage for growing up in Husker land. Just my opinion.

until I hear from players/coaches they're not getting enough reps, I will continue to believe the more athletes we have competing day in and day out, the better our team will be from top to bottom on Saturdays.

iron sharpens iron & all that. too many entitled scholarship players from other states not giving 120% every single day & not earning their shot is what got us here in the first place.

Curious as to why only Nebraska kids at Nebraska give 100%? Doesn't seem to make a lot of sense to me. My kids didn't grow up in Nebraska, and went to schools not in Texas, where they grew up. They all gave 100%

Most of the best players on the team aren't from Nebraska and yet, they seem to give 100%.
